What are you eating when you do this?

Keep it healthy, fruits, veggies, etc. Keep a bag of carrot sticks handy.

Or find something else to do when you find yourself going to the pantry. Take up a hobby that can distract you from it.

You're simply going to have to A: deal with the root of the emotional problem and B: in the meantime, replace eating with some other activity.
It will just take a lot of sheer will power, I'm afraid. Whenever you are angry or sad, grab your ipod and go for a brisk walk. Work up a sweat, breath fresh air, etc.

I agree with sourpus. Just work out if you are feeling emotionally down. Sweat is your best friend...it releases your happy mood

first of all well done for realising whats goning on with you, it takes courage to face up to these things. could you perhaps see a counsellor if you can afford it, if you cant perhaps you could research books that could help on the internet, and order them from the library. i did suffer from this for a long time, but when i left my ex husband it seemed to solve it a lot. you do need to work on your self esteem, i know its difficult but dont focus so much on your weight at the moment, and start exercising, and getting fitter. good luck.
