I agree with Little... Your body may have gone into 'starvation mode' so it is holding onto anything and everything right now until you get back to your normal intake of food and water.

Why is of no one's concern. I find the way the question was asked honestly offensive. There are many reasons not the least of which could be any of the following: in the hospital either admitted or with a relative, lost in the woods, lost while hiking, stuck in a snow storm, being sick, being in jail, stuck in a dorm during a snow storm where the pipes froze and the electricity was out with no provisions available and no money to buy food, homeless without any money on a food card, ect. Regardless of WHY, it happened.

For someone who is a mod, your question, Little, was rude and not one that was very welcoming to a new member.

And, regardless of your personal opinion, 5 pounds in ONE DAY is an incredible fluctuation.

Wow, I think you might be a bit sensitive to the feedback you're receiving. We can only answer based on what we hear from you.. so to ask an additional question of you shouldn't be seen as offensive!

For what it's worth, WHY you needed to not eat for a few days could very well be pertinent to WHY you gained weight. Like for instance, to take one or two of your suggestions as to why one would need to not eat. Hospital stay - a medical condition requiring someone to stay in a hospital could wreak havoc on someone's metabolism, and their water retention, as well as any/all medication that would make a person gain weight... Another suggestion you listed: stuck in a snowstorm- while the body is fighting to keep warm and healthy, it will go into "starvation mode," again making it so that one's body will cling to every last cell of fat and water to survive... so again, that could have an impact.

I'm positive Little didn't mean anything offensively, but for someone asking about losing weight during/after a 2/3 day period of no food, the question of why one didn't eat for that period of time is related to the question you asked in the first place.

But to answer your question, yes your body could enter starvation mode that quickly and begin retaining anything that gets ingested. So that you saw the results you did after not eating for that long should not be thought of as unusual, that's just how the human body reacts..

good luck with the rest of your weight loss... plateaus can be so frustrating sometimes, but you'll get over the hump eventually!

A small fluctuation like that could definitely be reflective of your body holding on to that water. I wouldn't let that throw you off and just continue on your course...

For plateau breaking, I don't know how many calories you are taking a day, but sometimes changing that just a tad, going up 50 calories for a week then going back down again.

Also changing up your exercise routine, if whatever you are doing isn't making you sore some days, isn't getting you into that zone where you are like BLEEP this is hard! Then you might want to shake it up a couple days a week.

The body is constantly trying to find peace, where it isn't losing or gaining, it will fight you tooth and nail at some points but when you get the ball rolling... it rolls... until it stops. And thats when you gotta do something to trick it into rolling again

As long as you keep doing what you are doing, eating less and exercising more the body will have no choice but to lose weight and stop being stubborn

But it will require your patience to not get mad that you are doing all you are supposed to and not losing weight. A lot of times people in a plateau , will say forget it and start eating more because eating less isn't causing them to lose weight. Gotta stick to those guns.

I don't know what type of diet you are using, but 'fuel injecting' your body... will get your metabolism on the fast tract. Small meals, frequently... causes your body to go into a state of continuous burning. Once it has a predictable food supply coming in - it feels safe burning it.

I eat every 3 to 4 hours and never go more than 5 without at least giving it a little something.

Don't let your plateaus get you down though, dear. I've hit many on my journey -- but just take em stride and know sticking to your guns will get you over those humps.

Caring about my members is my job. Insulting me is not yours. By the way, I'm not a mod. I'm the moderators' boss.
If you are lost in the woods or attempting to survive, whether because of the elements or because of a financial situation, you do NOT need to be on a diet. You need all the nutrition you can get by whatever means you can get it. An obsession with your weight when you should be obsessing over surviving is endangering your life. So if you made those suggestions because you were trying to make me look small or petty, you should be ashamed of yourself.
If you were in jail and they didn't feed you, then you need to be contacting a lawyer.
Five pounds isn't a large percentage of your body weight. If your body can fluctuate half of that 5lbs, and you consumed water equaling or exceeding the other half, why is it unbelievable that you could gain 5 lbs in the space of 24 hours?
Not to mention that if you are in any one of the situations you described, your body is going to be out of its circadian rhythm. Weighing yourself at the same time each day when you don't have a set schedule doesn't guarantee any kind of exact measurements.

The way it was phrased was offensive. Saying "oh my, why couldn't you eat for two days?" is one thing. Saying "why on earth couldn't you eat" is offensive. That phrase indicates that there's just no fathomable reason why someone couldn't eat for two days when in reality, that is far from true. I just found it so inappropriate for a mod to talk to a new member in such a way.

A ~ my comment to you was not a personal attack. It was a fact. You were terribly cruel to me in your comments and if you think you weren't, then obviously this place is extremely unfriendly. Asking someone "why in the world" is an accusation that someone is lying as you cannot fathom why someone would do something and it is impossible for you to believe a statement is true. That, in and of itself, a personal attack on your part to me. You attack me, imply I am lying that I couldn't eat, and I'm in the wrong? Seriously? You attack me and imply I'm lying but I'm in the wrong????

B ~ where does this 5 pounds stuff come from? I don't know what you are referring to.

C ~ if you truly believe that you did not insult me, you should check your wording again. If you further believe that telling you that you were mean was insulting to you, you need to read what you wrote. You were terribly mean to me. That is a fact.

Closed + Ban as an example of things you don't do: Tick of the chick who runs the forum.
BTW we have plenty of members whose first language isn't English. For anyone reading this closed thread, judging somebody by their diction is a cruddy way to judge!
(Especially when you're judging someone who translates professionally and is a hawk about her diction. I live in the South and "why on earth" is a very caring way to roll with your questions.)
