I know this is something that you almost never hear, But I'm a girl who needs to GAIN weight. I was born with an over-active metabolism. its so fast that its near impossible for me to gain weight, and easy to loose. But once i loose it i cant gain it back for years! I'm so close to being underweight again its scary. I'm 5'6" tall, 22 years old, and i only weigh 106lbs. (I lost two pounds again recently wile I've been trying to gain.) (I should be according to my height, age, and frame, between 120-133lbs)

Last time i actually dipped down into the danger zone was about seven or eight years ago. I got sick and couldn't eat for a week. I dropped down from 109lbs to 85lbs. I just recently got that all back, but now its going down again. and I'm constantly eating. i even out eat my man.

anyone know how i can at least maintain the pounds i currently have? My doctor advised me to not take weight gain pills unless i was pregnant, (which i am not and dont plan on being anytime soon) as they can mess me up further.

Weight gained is caused when you eat more calories than you burn.
Do you exercise? What's your diet like? If you do a search on 'daily calorie needs', or something similar, you can find calculate calories that you need each day, based on your age, gender, height and activity level.

I have the same body type as you. I'm near 5'7" and I'm usually around 116 lbs. I imagine if I didn't have a lot of muscle, I'd be down around 105-110 like I was in college.

eat, eat, eat! Be sure you're eating healthy though. It probably would help to drink a protein shake and lift weights as well.

My excersize is near zero. I used to be in Taekwon Do and when i got that excersize i would loose faster. so i stopped and i went back to sitting on the computer all day. My diet isn't healthy, but its not all junk either. I really dont look at calories and have no idea how much is in what i eat. sometimes i have really healthy "balanced" meals with chicken breasts, potatoes, and a veggie. other times its fatty grilled cheeses, a lot of them. I don't eat things that say "fat free, sugar free, diet, low-fat" or things like that.

Usually the first time i eat out with someone, they are all like "How are you NOT fat?! If i ate like you did I'd be a planet"

Exercise, healthy eating and extra protein is probably your best bet.

If you eat more calories than you burn and you do weight bearing exercises you will build muscle. You could just try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work then try something else. But currently, sitting at a desk and not eating healthy is not working for you so it won't hurt to try, right?

Treat yourself to nuts & avacados (high calorie healthy fats), be sure to eat cheese, bread, pasta... the things people on a diet try to avoid - indulge.

Liquid calories can add up quickly, drinking lots of fruit juices will pack on some calories and are more healthy than sodas.

High Calorie Protein shakes. A nutrition store will have them, there are lots of people that are trying to gain weight or avoid losing it... theres a huge market of products and diets that can pack on pounds.

Weightlifting, running, etc... adding some muscle to your body can help you achieve a healthy body weight without becoming fat in the process.

Theres some sure fired things that can make you gain weight... proven methods, but they are unhealthy so I am not even going to bring it up here or next you'll be on trying to figure out how to lose weight :P You are trying to be at a healthy weight... not an obese weight... so make sure to go at it smart, and not build up bad habits so much that when your metabolism slows down... you don't know how to control your eating and start heading the other direction of healthy weighted.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

Lots of peanut butter sandwiches and bananas would be good for you.
