I like this thread it's very happy so I'ma throw myself and my advice into the mix.

I'm 19 and at 230lbs, I can't say I try very hard to lose weight, but oddly I know how, I just don't do it. My mother is a diabetic and probably one of the few who is in complete control of it because of how she eats, thus I've learned a lot of healthy tips from her.

You can have almost as much vegetables as you want, the ones to stay away from are corn, carrots, the sweet ones really. Eat lean meats. Remember to drink tons of water, instead of picking up that soda get a glass of water, make sure it's icy cold cause it's so much more refreshing.

I'm a firm believer that if you're going to work out make sure you're sweating cause if you're not you're not trying hard enough. It doesn't have to be the gym, if you hate the classic tread mill and circle work outs you'll find at a gym, than find something else. To lose weight you need a cardio work out, something that keeps you moving for about 20 minutes a day. Weight lifting will firm your body but isn't as effective for losing weight.(If you're really up there in the numbers like me just go for a cardio for now, weight lifting and cardio might seem a bit intimidating right now.) Dancing is a great alternative, take a class, get a dvd, libraries actually have them. I found belly dancing work out dvds at mine.

If you're not just out to lose weight but to be generally healthier try yoga or pilates. Bug your friends irl into going with you, it's so much more fun and enjoyable when you go with people you care about and a lot easier to motivate each other.

Thanks for the info and support. I will check back daily.

Fortunately, I don't have a problem affording a membership, but I know how expensive they are. First of all I want you to know that I am very proud of you ( for what that is worth) for tackling the issue (it is not a problem, it is an issue) Most of all I guarantee you, you are beautiful right now, but I understand You want to improve. Good for you!

Biking and walking are awesome, it's a great platform to build upon. As we get older are bodies respond more towards diet and calories, and more specifically the types of calories and where they come from. Guys and girls are very different in how the machine runs, but the premise is close to the same.

I know you didn't solicate my advice but I really want to help people at something God blessed me with. So I hope I am not over stepping my bounds.

You are doing great biking and walking, and keep it up.

    How tall are you?

I am guessing you have big boobs due to your back problems?

before you buy a gym membership get the most comfortable shoes you can afford, maybe you already have them.

Break your meals up into 6-7 meals a day, and snacking is fine but eat high fiber snacks and low fiber meals. EX... snack, 1/4 Apple (what ever apple you like, they are all high fiber) 1 1/2 Ts natural peanut butter. for the amount of cals it will make you as full as a snickers bar and 5x less cals.

Breakfast a meal - most important of the day. Load up on good carbs, IE>> whole wheat, grain, fruit, and a little bit of protein. If I told you what I eat it would disgust you. it does my wife and friends. A good breakfast for you would be....

1/2 cup whole oats with 1/2 cup skim milk, with 1 whole banana, instant rice mixed with the oatmeal with one pat of un-salted butter and 1 tsp brown sugar, 3 pieces un-altered turkey breast lunch meat on whole grain toast with 1 tsp grape jelly. 20 ounces of water 1000 mg omega 3 fatty acids and a good multi-vitamin.

I don't want to over step my bounds so if you would like just tell me you want more and I will try to help. But I want you to be successful, and you will.

I have to say that I was a little discouraged when I came across this thread. I am currently at 219 & actually did the "happy dance" this morning when I stepped on the scale! My heaviest was 310 and have been losing at a gradual pace for about a year. I have lost weight MANY times before, but always gained it back, b/c I never did it right. So, after my husband left me, I decided to take life by the horns and get started...only making 20 pound goals at a time. Joining the YMCA, eating better and drinking protein everyday did it for me. So, needless to say I was over joyed to see that number this morning & feeling very confident in the way I look! That was until I got here and saw people posting how big 219 and 200 pounds were and feeling horrible about being that weight. I am reminded of just how much farther I have to go...91 pounds down and a whole lot more to go.
