    Hi all!

First off, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who viewed and posted on my previous post. It feels so great to know that we have such a support system set up. I've been very dedicated (moreso than my boyfriend I'd say) to improving my lifestyle and have a few updates to leave from my last post.

For awhile I got stuck around the 6-7 pound weight loss mark. It was really frusterating because I knew I was making healthier selections in my diet. Then my boyfriend made a couple of fantastic suggestions that have started my scale moving again. Rather than eating say fibre bars, or granola bars, I made the switch to having protein bars for breakfast & snack (if needed). Also, when I eat I have either rice or vegetables, but no longer both. A typical day for me looks like:

Breakfast: Protein bar & drinkable yogurt
Lunch: Chicken & either 1 portion of either rice/beans/vegetables
Snack: Piece of fruit usually mango
Dinner: Chicken or Fish, 1 portion of either rice/beans/vegetables & if I'm still hungry add another protein bar.

Eating like this is causing the scale to move again and now I went from a 6 pound weight loss to a solid 8 pounds lost. Someone on my previous post mentioned not having the time to make meals and make correct choices and to this I can relate a lot! I have a super busy lifestyle, so usually when I do cook, I try to cook up enough chicken so that it will last 3 or 4 meals. This of course doesn't work for fish (doesn't taste good reheated), but that only takes 6 min in the oven. Having healthy grab and go snacks is a really good idea to have on hand too. I usually try to shove a protein bar into my purse in case I have a hungry moment and I'm not at home... that way I can make a healthy choice and save money from having to eat out. Still 62 pounds to go! Hope everyone else is seeing success and I'd be happy to have anyone review my diet plan and make other suggestions.

    J

    Wonderful!

Are you exercising at all as well?

I exercise when I can, but I'm not sticking to a specific exercise regime. I am a PhD student and have a fairly irregular schedule and and can busy at my desk for long hours, daily. I am mainly relying on changing my eating habits, but will exercise when I can. My boyfriend and I both purchased bikes and plan to do this recreationally as well as substituting for our vehicle where we can. Where I live there are A LOT of hills, so bike riding it is very physically demanding.

BTW... I noticed a few people were starting to check out my profile, so I added a little bit quickly to my about me section.

Perfect. I think biking for transportation is a great idea. I know for me, when I drive to the gym it takes 15 minutes and if I ride my bike it takes 15 as well. So no reason in driving if the weather is decent. Every little bit helps.

Also, it's important to not get stuck sitting at your desk all day. There are all kinds of online timers that you can set to remind you to get up and move around. If you set it for once every hour and get up and do some stretches and jumping jack and sit ups, not only will you feel better but you'll get a little activity as well.

    good luck

sourpuss - thanks! I am trying to get up and move a bit more, especially when I am working from home.

Millania - Please let me know if this works for you too! And remember to stick to water/tea : ) I usually take splenda or a touch of honey in my tea... I can't do without the sweetness.

Ugh! Working from home. I know exactly how you feel. I work from home too. It's so easy to just get stuck in your chair but you really just have to make yourself get up and move around.
