Default Am I Doing Too Much?

I have been dieting since Christmas religiously and have only lost 11 pounds. I currently weigh 12.10 and am 5ft 4 so am quite over weight. I have been running on a treadmill for 45 minutes 6 days a week and eating around 1500 calories.

I have noticed that my eyesight has started to go funny - am having trouble focusing. I noticed this before when I was dieting do you think it could be related?

I am concerned that I might be doing too much exercise - can anyone give me some advice?

    Thanks

More likely a vitamin deficiency. Do you take a multi-vitamin?
When I work out really hard, I get depleted easily. Mostly, I get low on vitamin B12 and iron.

If what you do causes another problem then you might want to stop doing what you are currently doing. Try to formulate another weight loss strategy that will not jeopardize your body system. Try to slow it down a bit.

Compliments on your diligence, you're really putting in a lot of effort!

I took the same sort of approach for a while (lots of cardio while dieting).

What basically happened was that I did lose weight, but much of my lean tissue broke down as well. I got dizzy pretty regularly, looked really pale, things like that.

The combination of diet (which I interpret as an ongoing calorie deficit) with long-duration cardio does just that.

In general, look at how professional marathon runners look, and you can get a pretty good impression of what this sort of approach does to your body in the long run. Not much lean tissue remains.

Anyway, in that regard, you could say that you might be doing to much. But I'd rather not say 'too much', but instead suggest that you do things 'differently'.

With the effort you're obviously willing to put in you can really be wildly successful if you make some adjustments to the way you exercise (and probably your diet as well).

I don't want to bore you with an extremely long post though, so let me know if you're interested, then I'll give you some more details... ;-)

What's you're diet consist of, may I ask? Don't be one of those people who go on no-carbs diet, or all-protein, as this will surely giv eyou an imbalance of nutrients.

Go see your doctor and then consult a nutritionist so you are properly guided.

Like others said, I commend you for your effort, but this time around you should do things differently.

Your body is more than likely used to running for 45 minutes on the treadmill if you truly have been doing it 6 days per week since christmas. It is not working as hard as it did in the beginning and you need to change it up a little. Mess with the incline, do speed intervals... try sprinting. Even better, break up that 45 minutes and do 20 on the treadmill, 15 on an elliptical, and 10 on a stairmaster. Keep your body guessing and you will see results.
