Why After 60 pounds, has the "plateau" found me?

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes August of last year. With The IBS that my doctor has diagnosed me with a couple of months ago, he took me off of metformin and put me on glyburide.
But glyburide has failed me. It has dumped my sugar down low, to where I was having symptoms of low blood sugar. I brought it back up by eating. The next day I called the doctor and told the ladies and they called back a couple of hours later and said that my doctor said to quit taking the glyburide all together. He wants me to see how I manage my sugar on my own, go ahead with the lab slip he had already written out for me, and If it goes back up to call him, and they'll bring me in sooner.
My blood tests a week before I seen him were perfect 5.8 and 110.

I still test everyday, when I'm supposed to. I'm doing fair.
I also go out and do my walking, which is really helping with my glucose levels. I'm out walking twice a day, reading the nutrition labels before I cook or eat anything. Making sure I set my alarm for in the morning so I'm on a normal schedule.
I eat 3 times a day plus a snack... a measured cup of pretzels or a cup of no salt, butter or anything added popcorn. Then after that is my evening walk.
I drink water more now, than I ever have in my life. When I do drink soda its diet caffeine free whatever.

So all that I feel pretty good about.
But what more can I do to drop more weight, I'm about 50 pounds overweight still. I would love to drop some more. The metformin is whats helped me lose the first 60....i'm at a stand still with this last 50.

I don't have the money to join a gym or buy this piece of equipment. I don't have a car to drive to this place or that place, I live in a town. It has one gym (if you want to call it that) and it's all high school boys. ugh.

Is there anything I can do besides regular walking?

Although I'm not diabetic, my stepson is type 1 so I've gained some insight (albeit minor).

Personally, I think what you're doing is fantastic. What might be happening is you body is getting itself back to normal. Just as putting weight on is a process, so is taking it off.

The plateau may just be a stopover for you body to re-adjust.

Stick with it, work to educate yourself about better diet and increase your exersize level. One way to do that is to walk 24 mins each day and increase your walking speed so that you go further in that time.

I do know some people who have gotten off insulin and have their diabetes managed by diet and exersize - it can be done!

It makes me nervous, not being on any medication. Before, I was watching what I was eating and now I'm REALLY watching it.

I've come up with an idea of taking a mini walk after lunch. The daily cleaning will keep me busy enough after breakfast. Dishes, feed the animals sweep the floors etc etc. after I have dinner that's when I'll go out for my big walk, since i've always liked walking during the evening anyhow.

I HAD to take a break yesterday bc It's been 5 months since i've been out walking, due to the snow *crosses eyes*
I was trying too hard with my body. The arches of my feet were aching so bad yesterday that all i could do was hobble. I also have a horrible pair of shoes .

I feel better today, I dragged my s.o. outside with me for about half an hour I hope the rain stays away long enough for me to do dinner and get at least a half hours worth of walking in. But looking at the skies, i doubt that'll happen.

Pretzel, thanks for the comments I'm so happy that i've lost so much weight over the months. I think part of my mind hasn't caught up with the fact that i don't weigh what I used to. I get compliments alot more often now, and i'm still in --the smile and then awkwardly fidget with something-- deal.

I like the 24 minute walk idea. They also have this half mile loop walk here in town. I may time myself to see how long it takes to walk it, and then go from there.

My goal is still 10 pounds a month. Once I find one of my friends that can commit to nightly walks a few times a week, it'll give me something to look forward to.

Have you looked into South Beach?

It's all about maintaining a stable blood sugar through low glycemic carbs, lots of protein. and lots of veggies. If you don't have kidney trouble, it might be worth looking into!

I've been on it and lost 9 lbs over the last 2 months. I really like it. I have hypoglycemia, so it's really great because my blood sugar is stable on it AND I'm losing weight.

Also, can you stand to do more than walking? Biking? Elliptical? Running? Aerobics? Anything you can do to rev up your metabolism will help you with weight loss and is great for your heart, provided you don't have heart or joint problems.

Reading your post, I get that the gym isn't where you'd ideally like to go. Can you buy/rent exercise tapes? If you get a Netflix subscription, for example, it's a low fee per month and you can get access to some great workout videos for cheaper than buying them. I've done that and it's awesome.

I can do biking. But I need a new one, the old one can't be salvaged at all.

Running is an issue, as I do have hip and knee problems. I have to wear an ace bandage of some sort on my knee If i decide to go out walking for more than an hour.
the only real pain i get is behind my one knee. I won't go into great detail now, but I think I might have arthritis, based on how my hips and knees feel more often than not.
I can handle the elliptical and aerobic thing, But I just have to "kind of" take it easy due to other physical issues.
Topaz made a great suggestion that I think i'll have to look into. renting workout videos sounds like a very awesome idea.

I think I may ask my doctor what kind of diet things I can get into. I don't think I mentioned it, but I have IBS. I've been thinking of doing a diet similar to south beach but greens and veggies tear me up so bad, even with the medication i take *sigh* lol.

What about when my stomach is growling so loud my neighbors can hear? I've tried drinkin lots n lots of water to eating a handful of popcorn and it still drives me nuts especially around this time of the night. Is there something filling, yet doesn't have any carbs or anything of any kind that I can at least chew on until it passes? I'm not starving myself, I was just used to eating a heavier snack around 10ish at night and now that i'm not doing that, my stomach's gone hay wire!

My mom is diabetic and right now her diet includes eating fresh fruits, vegetable and walking every morning. Every now and then she visits her doctor for regular. So far this has help her in staying healthy.
