I'm a 21yr old female, 5'6" and about 225lbs, large body frame. I'm looking for a goal of loosing about 75lbs..making my goal weight about 150-160lbs. My family don't really believe in dieting, lol, so its going to be a rough road ahead of me. But does any body have any tips or anything that might be able to help me? Someone told me to try eating several small meals all threw out the day, does this actually work? Are there any diet pills out there that anyone has tried with good results? Does drinking lots of water help you eat less? Can you gain water weight if you drink to much water? I want to try and loose the weight by the end of this year..I think that is plenty of time, don't you? Any comments and support would help alot! I don't get much support from home besides from my little sister (14) who is also wanting to loose weight. (not going to allow her to take diet pills at her age tho, lol)

Eat a balanced, healthy diet and get plenty of exercise everyday.
What's your diet like right now? How much activity do you get on a daily basis?

    Hey Lexy!
Goodluck to you with your target. Hope you acheieve it but you will have to be really cautious with whatever tricks you going to apply.
Drinking water is always good to health and skin but it is good to drink water before starting your meal but not right after finishing your meal.
and drinking much water does not put you into water weight. Do not worry about that.
I will repeat it here which i have been recommended to any one who ask tips to loose weight. Exercise is the best pill to burn your fat and calories.
Even then if you want to take some medication, consult a doctor first.

I am living with my dad and step mom right now...and they dont believe in buying any fresh veggies...Well let me correct myself...They do but its rare..And money is very tight as I'm sure it is every where right now. So my diet consists of an egg and piece of sausage for breakfast with 2 glasses of water before eating. Then lunch I usually have like one piece of bread with 2 pieces of lunch meat turkey with light mustard and some carrots (if there is any at the time..or what ever veggie I can find for the moment) Dinner if there is salad I try to eat a small salad before dinner, and then eat like very small portions of what ever is for dinner being careful to watch the intake of breads, and pasta and that kind of stuff and some veggies (usually they have frozen with dinner)...and i drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water all day. I know its not the best diet...But I'm unemployed for the moment, believe me once I find a job and get my own place it will be a lot more balanced and strict. lol

As far as activity i do 10 crunches, then i do 10 crunches right elbow to left knee and vise verse, 10 push ups in the morning before i do anything else. I try to walk every night around the block, which equals up to about like 10-15min...I'm afraid to push myself to hard walking or jogging due to knee problems..it hurts if i stress it to much

Hi Lexy I read your forum post and here is what I have to say to help as someone who also has a family that doesn't diet or grocery shop smart. (FYI: I am not a personal trainer, nutritionist, or anyone who specializes in the field, although I have been told I should. Im just a 23 year old girl who has struggled with weight loss my whole life. I used to be 165lbs, when I was 18. Now after years of learning and growing I am at 145ish and I am still trying to lose some extra weight but it is a slow process... you have to take it slow to maintain the goal you are trying to achieve.)

First of all you said you wanted to lose 75lbs... to lose this and be able to keep it off you will want to average 2-3lbs per week. which means about 35 weeks (leaving room for a week or two of no weight loss... which happens after a while)

Second, exercise is key to losing fat and maintaining a healthy weight. So try to fit it in 2-3 times per week at minimum. Crunches are okay but you need cardio, your body doesn't start burning fat till after the first half hour of moderate exercise. (Moderate=you maintain momentum and you also maintain a light sweat)

As far as food goes, yes small meals over the course of the day is best. Frozen veggies are just as good as fresh veggies (unless there are a lot of butter and or fatty marinades involved) Don't cut your portions too small.

Here are a few simple tricks for figuring out what is the right portion size. Take a plate, try to find one that looks about 7-8inch diameter (average size plate) fill half the plate with veggies (not potato even though it is technically a veg.) then 1/4th of your plate should be a protein like chicken, fish or beef. (Amount the size of your fist or palm) then the other 1/4th of your plate can be a healthy starch such as brown rice or pasta. Rice is cheep so its a easy affordable alternative if your are hard on cash but don't want to eat the side dishes your family makes.

Try to stay away from fried foods, if your family cooks these ask to prepare your own "meat" portion of dinner. A plain chicken or turkey breast can be cooked easily in a oven or toaster oven. (A tasty marinade can be as simple as Balsomic vinigar and a tablespoon of olive oil, or lemon juice.

If you like the advice I am giving and want more feel free to email me any time. One of my email addresses is *Removed e-mail address*

If I don't hear from you. Good luck on your journey!

A healthy eating habit and exercising is a must if one is to lose weight. You can try runing few days a week and that will really help.

Thank you so much. Hearing from someone who can relate to having a family like mine that don't believe in diets was very motivating and helpful!

No problem Lex, I wish someone was around to answer questions for me when I had no knowledge of how to cope with my family issues. EVERY holiday it was crazy my grandparents and other family members would always tell me "you need to eat more" "you hardly ate anything... here have a canoli!" Lol... now I am able to over come the obstacles and make good healthy decisions. Anytime you want to know more tricks and tips e-mail me for quick responses. you have my email. (^o^)

    Hi Lexy!
I know this advice may sound out of this world, but try hypnotherapy. I just went through this process this past weekend and i'm already on the right track. Im 19, 5'2" and i weigh about 185. I'm looking to get down to about 130. Eat lots of negative calorie foods like celery and artichiokes. I'm sure you could find a whole list of these types of food online. These foods actually burn calories while you eat them. I was never a fan of the healthier foods but when i learned that eating can help me lose weight i dove right in! I wish the best of luck to you and I know you can do it!
