im a 26 yrs old, 5'4 141 lb. female. I have consitently been working out for the past 2 years. (at least 4 days a week) within the past 2 weeks ive started doing spin 4x a week, i meet with a personal trainer 3x a week for circuit training.. then the occassional yoga or pilates class. During the week my daily calorie intake is right at 1200.. and on the weekends closer to 1700. Yet the scale has not budged. Im frustrated by the lack of weight loss and need some advice or inpsiration from someone before i lose it! Help!

It's only been a couple of weeks so you're going to have to be patient. Take your body measurements, you'll see results there quicker since you're probably building muscle (which weighs more than fat) while you're burning fat, the scale may not move for some time. Judge by how your clothing fits, how you feel and your measurements.
Give it a good 2 months of what you are doing now and you'll see the difference.

it hasnt been a couple weeks since i've been working out... its been a solid 2 years of consistency. I just added in the spin classes the past couple weeks to shake things up... I use to just to do a 30 min run or 45 mins on the elliptical 2-3x a week now im spinning 4x a week for 60 mins.. i thought that changing up my cardio would have at least let me drop 2 lbs in 2 weeks.. and i switched from a trainer that i use to do just weight lifting 3x a week with to a trainer that does circuit training (which as we all know is cardio also). Thats what im frustrated.. i thought the change would help me break the plateau and it hastn.

I hear you. Maybe someone can tell me what is up w/me. I have been holding a pretty steady weight for about a year now. I am 48, almost 49 and very active. I work out every day, cardio 5 x a week and strength train 3 x. I think Perimenopause might be starting. Periods are getting irregular and everything. Anyway, I have noticed over the last couple of days (since Sat I think) that my weight has crept up steadily everyday. And I dont know why this is. I havent done anything different. Matter of fact I drank a TON of water yesterday and took water pills to try to rid the excess -what I think is water weight (I have my period/well I think it's the end stage right now) . It seemed to have the opposite effect. Need less to say I am ready to toss the scale out the window. I am up over 2 pounds now since last week. Can someone tell me what could be going on here? I also take supllements everyday, glucosamine , vitamin e, calcium and a women's multi-vitamin,. I would appreciate any feedback here as I am very frustrated,to say the least.

    JenJen,

I agree with sourpuss...gotta give it time.. But trust me, I feel your pain! maybe you can try mixing up the calories some?? Like maybe 1200 one day and then 1400 the next?? You're working out a lot, so maybe your body isn't getting enough food to fuel it efficiently?? Might be a question for the trainer...

Otherwise, I understand... I've been working out 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice a day and I have only lost like 2 lbs in a month... It's very frustrating but I feel better. You may have to experiment with your calories and workouts till you find out what works best, but you have less than 10 lbs, so if you have a lot of muscle, then you might not *need* to lose the weight so maybe your body is hanging on to it...

Well it doesn't seem to me like time is the issue. She has been working out consistently for 2 YEARS not weeks. Jen i personally am concerned with your calorie intake. 1200 is not much AT ALL. I have said it before that i have seen it over and over again where people plateau with their progress because they aren't eating enough calories. You can tune up a car engine as much as you want but if you don't put enough gas in the thing, it isn't gonna go. Simple as that. What does your eating schedule look like? How many meals at what times during the day? I think the problem most likely lies in your eating right now. Also like sourpuss said earlier, you should get your measurements and body fat taken. The scale isn't always a good indicator of the progress you are making especially if you are doing any weight training. Either way i think you need to rethink your nutrition plan. My body fat percentage is considered in the extreme athlete range and my workout routine is 6 days a week. I also eat somewhere around 2400-2600 calories everyday

Some things to think about may be your water and food intake. If your body thinks it's starving, it's not going to let those pounds go. You could try breaking up your meals into 5-6 times a day if you haven't done that already.
