has anyone heard of the water fast? i know a lot of you are probably going to think it's absolutely ridiculous, but hey- i'm not the one who came up with it!!

basically the name says it all. it's just a water-based diet, i guess. i found out about it through youtube, there are a lot of videos that people have posted showing their progress (a good example would be (edit link replaced with word) youtube) or you can just search water fast on it

now, those people do the fast for thirty days.. some even more. i'm not looking to do THAT many. maybe ten? if that. but what do you think? i've heard women can drop 5 or more pounds on the fast in one week...... but correct me if i'm wrong

You'll actually lose more weight, faster, if you don't starve yourself.
    Taken from your other thread.

Firstly these ads you are reading on the internet sites are exactly that ads, or stupidity.

Off course you are going to lose weight fast if you only drink water. But, your also going to lose energy fast as nothing is in your body as far as protein, nutrients go and your going to pass out more than likely, your stomach will shrink and you'll find it hard to start to eat again, you may even end up with a disorder as a result, your bones won't get calcium and become brittle.

Okay, that's a long term thing

But the point I am trying to make is your trying to find a quick fix. What happens after that? You missed the food so bad you'll eat double when you can eventually get your body to eat again.

Your original idea and Soupuss's reply and Oct's reply were your answer to losing weight, definately not this.

Yes you will lose weight and very fast but not for healthy reasons. This type of fad is nothing more than draining the body of everything it needs and washes it out. The worst part about this would be the exponential loss of electrolytes causing extreme fatigue and lethargy. Then would probably come diarrhea, complete lack of vitamin and nutrient absorption, there will be a loss of appetite and loss of pigment in the skin. I do not know why people come up with this kind of material, this stuff can seriously harm a person and if they ever ended up in the ER the attending would likely be stunned as to how a person could subject themselves to what is basically slow torture.

Losing weight takes a huge amount of time and commitment and the right decisions. I would not advocate this one at all in any way. Personally I hear good stuff from following the work of Jillian Michaels.

I highly recommended that don't listen to these people. They just talk about their experiment for how to lose weight not about side affect on their body. if you will do this diet you gonna lose weight and cause harm your health, your hair will fall, you will have low memory and other problems.

Here's a nice "fast" that a friend of mine does every once in a while to "cleanse her system," as she says:

Eat nothing but fruits and vegetables, and drink only water, for a few days.

Personally I don't get the purpose of these "fasts" or "cleanses" if once they're finished, people just go straight back to eating what they did before...

But if you're going to do any type of fast, make it one your body will thank you for, eh?

Agreed. I don't get the whole cleanse thing either. Unless you have a horrible diet and intend to change it permanently, I don't see the point. Besides, that's what your liver and kidneys are for anyway.

That being said, only fruits and veggies for 3 or 4 days with plenty of water is a good jump start to a healthy diet.

Don't forget though there are a lot of people who's livers and kidneys don't function properly simply BECAUSE they have such a crappy diet. ut i agree about the fruits, veggies and water. Add a cup of hot green tea to that. Its a natural detoxifier.
