I just joined today and I am hoping to learn much. But right now, I just want to share my perspective on trying to lose weight as an aging boomer woman.
I learned about some of the bio-chemical causes of weight gain in aging females from Dr. Pamela Peeke in her book "Fight Fat after 40" ... what an eye opener ... basically she attributed a lot of our weight gain to stress and the toxicity that stress produces in the body. It made total sense to me, but then the strategies she offered were difficult to harness. Therefore, although I learned much from her, I was not able to put her info to much use in my case ...
... at least not until a friend introduced me to nutritional cleansing 4 years ago. This lifestyle is predicated upon 2 notions that I had not been aware of previously, portending that: (1) our food chain is nutritionally bankrupt; and (2) our bodies are toxic, not just from stress, but from food, water, air, other environmental factors, skin products and electro-magnetic fields.
Well, it turns out that via nutritional cleansing, I was able to top up my body's nutrient intake to optimal levels through low-caloric meal replacements, and flush out the decade’s worth of toxins I had accumulated along with the attendant fat. Within a matter of months, I was able to release the 30 lbs I had been wanting to lose forever yet never daring to hope was possible ... and the best part is I have kept this weight off since September 2006.
What a difference ... a lifelong struggle with weight (including that yo-yo thing) and mood issues has become a thing of the past. No more urge to raid the cookie jar, lots of energy, blessed sleep, stable weight with room for fun choices, joy, concentration ... a whole host of benefits. My body has become far leaner thanks to the exercise regime I can now undertake: weights 4 times a week and power cardio 3 times a week.
I love my new life, and so does my husband needless to say ☺!
I'll be interested to learn from all of you who read here of other strategies for long-term success since successful strategies are usually complimentary rather than "either-or".
Cheers and be well,
