    Default P90X - New Thread

I was just going to post in the old one until I read all the way through and realized it had been closed.

I'm 19 years old, stand about 5'11" and I weigh approximately 280lb. Which is the most I've ever weighed. Granted, I've spoken with my doctor and together we decided that 180-190 would be the ideal weight for me considering I've been blessed with wide hips and broader shoulders.

A friend of mine owns the P90X videos. I own a gym membership to LA Fitness but I feel as though I don't get a good enough workout from simply running on the treadmill or using the olyptical. The friend that owns P90X has told me that the workouts are insane, but according to almost everyone who posted in the old thread, the workouts work.

    So what I'm wondering is:

How long were you following the workouts before you began to see a difference? How much weight did you lose in the first month?

My boyfriend and I are talking about getting married, and he's a bigger guy as well. I know for a fact that if I bought the videos, he would do them with me.

What can you do to avoid the nausea that occurs when you first begin?

As with anything new, ease into it. The good thing about P90X is that its at home and you can just pause the video and take a break.
The workouts are great and it comes with a diet plan as well. I don't know anyone who has done the program that hasn't seen results. I think it's a 90 day program, which is about right to see results with any program. It is intense though, 6 days a week (although one of those days is yoga, which is good).

If you follow the program and really push yourself, you'll see results. It's great that your boyfriend will do it with you, you'll keep each other motivated.
I think you'll get a better workout with the videos since it combines strength and cardio and there's lots of plyometrics as well.

    Keep us updated.

    CG,

I would maybe start with the Lean method if you get the P90X system. OR maybe replace the plyo with the Cardio workout until you get a couple months in. I find the Plyo to be the most nauseating of the workouts and if you're trying to lose a significant amount of weight, it might be a bit much on your joints starting out.

Secondly, be sure to use the workbook/worksheets. It can be a bit discouraging when you start our and can only do one or two reps or maybe none at all of some things BUT if you write down what weight you're using and the reps, as the time goes it, it really is nice to see that you can do 2 more the next time, then maybe 5 more after 60 days, etc. DON"T BE DISCOURAGED!! It's an intense workout, even for those in great shape but be sure to celebrate the small victories! If you need to take a break, pause it for a minute like Sourpuss said and then start back. You will be surprised what you are capable of!

You will most likely start to see the effects of the workout within the first 30-45 days...especially if you follow the diet. Be sure to take measurements because there might be weeks where you don't lose or you only lose a bit, but you will be toning and gaining muscle and you will be able to tell in how your clothes fit as well!

Good luck and keep us posted!!!
