Go for whole grains. Try to avoid foods that are super processed. Frozen veggies tend to be safe though if they don't have preservatives and a bunch of sodium added. READ THE LABELS. They are your best friend. Be aware of serving sizes. Just because it's a small bag doesn't mean it's really only one serving. Eat lean meats, fresh fruits, veggies, yogurt. Avoid things with lots of fat and sugar when possible.
I like to look up recipes before I go and then I know what to get specificially, but the more you can avoid processed foods or foods smothered in cheese, fried, or breaded...the better you'll be.

Occassionally have fast food (takeaway) once a week is not going to kill your efforts if you watch what you get. My rule is always no fries and no mayo on my sandwiches. A burger won't completely ruin you now and then but it needs to be the exception not the rule. Also keep in mind that just because something says it is diet doesn't make it better all the time... There are often fake sugars or more sugar that fills in where they took out the fat. It also still contains calories and ultimately, you're going to have to burn more than you eat to lose weight. Do you have certain veggies you like? Do you enjoy fruits? There are plenty of things you can eat that taste great. I like to make my own turkey burgers at home with sweet potato fries. It kills my craving for the junk food but since I control what goes in and on it, I can easily cut away a ton of fat and about 200-300 calories and still feel satisfied.
