Keep up the good work. Yeah, coffee can be a KILLER! Sounds like you figured that out though Just be aware of little places that you might sabotage yourself, butter, mayo, lots of other condiments. Those can easily add a couple hundred calories a day too without realizing it. I think you will be to your goal before you know it!

Traveling is REALLY hard. I mean, you have much less control over what you eat, but I'd suggest sticking with SIMPLE meals, avoid sauces, toppings, etc. Also try to ask for things to be cooked without butter if you can and stick with steamed veggies as a side or other things like that. Even then, they often have butter. Try to eat small portions. Most restaurants give you at LEAST two servings in a meal. Only eat half or if you're traveling with someone, split a meal. Avoid fancy alcoholic beverages. Instead opt for beer or wine which have set calorie counts and still keep alcohol to a minimum. Also try to walk as much as the weather permits if you are doing any sightseeing.

I also always pack snacks to take with myself to avoid temptation on the road or at the airport

    Default Back from Vacation

    Hi All,

Yesterday I came back from my vacation. Had a wonderful time. So the first thing that I did after coming bak is hop on the scale the next day morning to see the damage done. 14 days and 5 pounds up . I kind of knew this would happen. Even thought I tried to watch my weight in the trip, it was hard cos we were eating out everyday. I will start all over again. This time I am planning to be more strict with myself starting from Monday. Take care all.

Hi, you are right about where I am in weight. I think I was 144.8 this morning and I would love to reach 120. I am quite short so 120 may even be too high, but seeing as I haven't been there for eons, I will take that! I am setting small goals for myself, so I would like to go under 140 by the end of this month. That may be unreasonable, but I will try to work towards that.

Good luck! I will check your thread regularly for updates.

    Default Reducing vacation weight gain

    Hi All,

I am currently in the process of reducing my vacation weight gain as soon as possible. That means no outside foods. Mon I was strict but Tue I had graham crackers dipped in chocolate. I dint like the idea first but thought it would be a better alternative in Starbucks. Now when I was in the US I saw that they had mentioned the number of calories each of the goodies they had. Cookies and banana loaf etc. All of them were 350 calories and above. I was shocked to know that. This info is not available in the place I live. Wonder why. Anyways I dint have any of them in the US but when I came here I remembered and now I dint have them but had Graham Crackers which unfortunately later on |I found at the back that it is 280 for 2 crackers. Well I tried. I did walk a bit. Reading jillian Michales book on Metabolism.

What are you doing for exercise?

Most large chains like starbucks have their nutrition info online if you're curious for next time.

Like SP said, pretty much all major chains have their information available online so you can check things before you go. As a general rule, I avoid ALL dessert-type items when I'm out. They almost always have more calories than I think. Even if they claim to be "reduced-fat" or "light". It's not that hard to reduce the fat when you're starting with 50 or 60 grams. That still doesn't make it healthy. I'd suggest keeping some granola bars or dried fruit (pre-measured) with you when you go out so you can have it if you get a craving. I like the mini-boxes of raisins. They are super sweet to me and only 45 calories per box.

Keep up the goodwork and keep moving!!

For exercise I walk a little bit or I try and goto Mom and Baby boot camp once a week. Other than that I am just trying to eat a good diet.

Also thank you for the mini snack tip.

Acheive - It sounds like you're definitely on the right track..

I think you might benefit from increasing your exercise to lose the vacation weight, and to reach your ultimate goal. You can do this 3 ways - increase the amount of time you work out, or increase the intensity, or both.

If you workout 2 days a week, shoot for 3 or 4 days a week doing the walking or the bootcamp. Of course, I understand you might not have the time to exercise MORE OFTEN.. that happens, but then you have the option of increasing the intensity so you can burn more calories...

For example, if you go for a walk for an hour - try uping that to a jog/walk for an hour... push yourself to jog for a minute and then walk (rest) for a minute. It will be the same amount of time spent exercising, but the intensity will really jumpstart your body to lose weight. In my experience (I'm on the weight loss journey too), not much else burns through fat as well as some good cardio.

Just a thought for you... I know whatever you chose, you'll get to your goal as long as you're driven!

Thanks for the advice Kmonte. You are right. I will try to increase my intensity and also try working out more times a week. I also tried and stopped eating outside. I thought who is going to stop eating desserts!! Nobody! Everybody eats desserts all the time, why shd I stop? But then when Kgirl told that she has raisins to beat her craving then I realized that I was stupid to think that everyone eats desserts 3 times a week. Like Starbucks junk. Anyways it also made me realize how back home we used to eats sweets only on occasion. once or twice in 3 months!! and that too homemade. Who knows what they put here Margarine maybe. Thank you all for your support ...
