Default I have no clue how to lose weight

Hi everyone. I've always been very slim my whole life, with one of those metabolisms where I could eat as much of whatever I wanted and never have to worry about weight gain.

Well, it seems to have caught up with me. I got a sedentary job for the first time in my life, and I immediately started packing on pounds. I have since left that job, but the 30 pounds I gained decided to stay with me. Besides all the money I'm spending having to buy new clothes because my old ones don't even come close to fitting anymore, it's wreaking havoc on my self-esteem (which wasn't that high to begin with).

I've been trying to lose the weight, but having never paid attention to what I ate it's extremely difficult to start doing that. Plus watching what I eat doesn't seem to be working at all, which just sucks the motivation right from me. My fiance tried to help, because he'd lost 50 pounds before he met me so he knew what worked well for him. He was wanting to lose a few pounds anyway, so we decided to do it together. He had told me that my body needed a certain amount of calories to maintain my weight, and if I started eating healthy and made sure I took in less calories than that and exercised I'd lose weight. So we calculated how many calories I needed to maintain my current weight, and we made sure I was eating less than that, and we were cooking healthy meals at home, and I was exercising for atleast 30 minutes, five days a week (exercise isn't something I've really ever bothered doing, either). He started dropping off pounds. Me, not so much.

At the end of the month, I'd lost a whole 2 pounds. So I quit his diet, because 2 pounds in a month is not nearly enough motivation for me. Having given up and being depressed about how I was going to be fat for the rest of my life, I went on to gain another 10 pounds.

I'm desperate. I see other women losing weight, and I don't understand how they're able to do it and I can't.

If anyone has some tips or something that maybe I'm not thinking of, I would really appreciate it. I want this 30 pounds gone.

How did you calculate how many calories you need? I've found that all the ones I've come across on the internet measure about 500-700 calories too many. For example, for me they say I need 2300 calories a day. If I ate that much, I'd gain a ton of weight.

What were you doing for exercising? 30 minutes isn't really enough if you're wanting to lose weight. If you think about a warm-up and a little cool down. It ends up being, usually, less than 20 minutes of actual exercise. How hard are you pushing yourself when you do exercise?

Are you on birth control? That could cause weight gain as well.

I found a little math equation to calculate my BMR, and then it said to multiply that result by 1.2 since I'm sedentary, and that would be the number of calories I needed to consume to maintain my weight. My result was 1680 calories. But since I started exercising, I was eating about 1500 calories.

For my exercising, I was taking a pole dancing class twice a week for an hour, and on the other three days I did the cardio stuff on wii fit for 30 minutes. Both of those had me exhausted long before I was finished (I'm not in shape at all), but the pole dancing especially wore me out. It got better the longer I did it, but the first time I did it I was sore for days and I could hardly bend my legs, and I screwed up my shoulder.

And I'm not on any birth control. I tried it once, and the hormones completely screwed me up, both physically and mentally. So that didn't last for very long, and I won't go on it again.

I think you just need to stick with it then. If you're not in shape, exercising at a good intensity for a sustained amount of time can be hard. I'm not familiar with the wii fit, so I can't comment on that. But if you're losing 1-2lbs/month doing what you were doing, it would make sense if you added another 15 minutes to each workout that you'd lose 2-4 pounds a month. Losing weight takes time, a lot longer than it takes to gain it, that's for sure.

If feeling bad about yourself and having to buy new clothes isn't enough motivation, I don't know what to tell you. You just have to want it to happen. The hard work has to be worth it, or you'll never keep it up.

I agree with SP. It's going to probably take a while for you to get into a good frame of mind with this, but honestly, you need to approach this as a lifestyle change as well. You should be eating healthy and working out to take care of yourself. The weight loss obviously is important, but you're going to have to workout hard, make sure you're pushing yourself a bit more each week and go from there. I have ZERO free time most of the time and I still am finding ways to squeeze in 5-6 hours of workouts a week. I may only lose a lb a week, but once you see your body hit that 5 lb mark, then 10 lb, etc you'll feel better about it.

Have you thought about incorporating some weights into your workout as well? If you do this, you might also want to measure yourself before starting and again in about 3-4 weeks as the weights will help tone more so than drop a ton of pounds.

I know it stinks that men can lose weight so easily, but dont' let that discourage you! You definitely don't want to keep going the other way. Just remember, you ARE worth it!

Hi, unlike you i have always had problems with my weight, losing it and then putting it back on. I have recently put on around 2 stone and want to lose it agian, i am going to do what i did the last time i lost weight as i know iot works.

I consume no more than 1000 calories a day, i may go up to 1200 on a bad day. It often helps to keep a diary of the foods you are eating writing down how many calories you have consumed. Also i try not to eat after 7pm.

Try to eat smaller portions but eat more times a day for eample snack on fruit throughout the day as eating more times but less helps to speed you motabolism up. Do not skip meals as your body thinks it is starving and stores fat.

I aim to go the gym at least 3 days a week but more if i can where i will usually spend around 2 hours. Doing weights also help so that as your loosing weigh you are toning up to avoid skin sagging, doing weights also help to keep the weight off.

If you do not go the gym maybe go for a walk or a run for an hour a day.

As for mativation maybe find an old picture of what your body was like before the weight gain also have realistic goals in mind for example aim to lose 10 pounds at first and once you have reached this goal it may help motivate you to lose another 10.

Take measurements of your body as you may not lose weight but you can often lose inches but i would recommend checking ever 2 weeks. Again this should motivate you to keep going.

The first week is usually the most difficlut as your body needs to get used to the changes you are making. Keep at it and the weight will come off .

Hope i have helped and good luck x

Don't worry about your weight loss. because i have a great solution for this. Just use one herbal product, that is herbal hoodia gordonii. Really its a great one. I already used it. Before using it, my weight is 90 kgs, after 3 months , my weight is 65 only. No diet and no exercise , just use that, really you will get a better shape and lose weight.

Don't feel bad. I'm on birth control so it makes it impossible for me to loose the weight that I gained since getting on the pill.

I know a few years ago, I was experiencing some major migraines and I had one every day for like a month long. Went to my doctor and she told me to lay off sugars like soda and white bread and all that and I lost 10 pounds in two weeks without any exercise really being done. So that was nice but obviously before my days of being on the pill.

I've been on birth control for almost 3 years now and gained about 25 pounds in those 3 years. I've been doing home workouts and just recently bought a bike about 2 months ago and have been doing that since. Biking really gets your heart going. My fiance and I do between 4-8 miles a ride. Today we did 6 miles altogether. Have I lost the weight? Nope, in fact from what the scale last said, I've gained more which isn't the greatest thing to me. I have low self esteem about it personally, I don't like the way I look and i've tried countless things. My diet sticks to the same thing almost everyday.

For breakfast I have a fairly healthy cereal with strawberries in it (it's called Strawberry Awake) and then for lunch I have a home made fruit smoothie with all different kinds of fruit, a little bit of orange juice, some milk and then a little vanilla yogurt. I usually have a full glass of that with some protein at the side with maybe a turkey sandwich or something on whole grain bread. I don't snack much during the day but if I do, it's mainly a granola bar or maybe a few nuts or something. Dinners I try to keep as small as possible. It doesn't always work but I do as best as possible. After dinner we go out riding for at least an hour to an hour and a half. After that I usually get a bit hungry and will snack on some fruit or something. I do my best not to indulge on bad stuff but sometimes it's not always easy.

Keep it up though. Get the workouts going more frequently for longer periods of time. You gotta work up to it. I know the first day we went riding I was tired almost instantly. It takes time to get used to working out and stuff when you haven't done it. I'll tell you, I couldn't run to save my life which is why I chose to get a good mountain bike and go for long rides. Keep your head up and keep at it. It may only be a few pounds in a month but at least it's something when I can't loose a single pound.
