In your opinion(s), what alcoholic drink would be best to consume to try keep a slimmer waist. I understand that ALL have potential to cause weight gain, but what do you think is least likely. I only drink on weekends when out with friends.

You could try those low carb beers. And limit yourself to only two. Mixed drinks are bad because they have a ton of sugar. Most beers are pretty high in calories as well. Guiness draught is only 125 calories, something like that. But if you go out on Friday and Saturday and have 5 or 6 it really doesn't matter what you choose, it's going to be bad for you.

sp's got it right... having one here or there won't harm your weight loss goal much, but going out and drinking a bunch will, even if you're sticking to lower calorie drinks.

Clear liqour has the least amount of calories, less than brown alcohol, less than beers and other malts (not always, but usually)... however - once you mix it with soda you're right back up there in sugar and cal's anyway so you need to be careful of that. You can always mix with water (Think vodka and water w/ a squeeze of lemon or some mint leaves). Or tonic is okay too...

Otherwise the low-cal beers are a decent option, MGD 64 is one example... but if you're anything like me, you'd rather drink water than that junk anyway (I think low carb/low cal beers taste horrible).

I would say you could do wine? It's been shown to have good benefits for women's health AND if you only have a glass or two, you'd be good.

I agree though, that if you have 5 or 6 drinks, you're looking at probably 1/2 a day's calories or more if you stick with regular beer. If you're doing that every weekend, not going to be good on your body or weight maintenance, much less weight loss.

I personally usually will allow myself one to two beers and I just go with Amstel Light normally. It's 99 calories for 12 oz and I think the flavor is better than some of the other "lighter" beers.

I think a bloody mary only has about 125-150 calories. If you have one, then a glass of water and then maybe one more in a night that's not too bad. But I know that when we're out on the town, limiting it to two is hard.

There may be fewer calories than regular soda but it is no "obviously its a DIET soda so it has to be good for me!" there is still a ton of sugar. Soda is soda, once you incorporate that into anything it is no longer a healthy drink choice.

There is no sugar in diet soda. It is made with artificial sweetner.

There have been recent studies that have shown that diet drinks actually cause weight gain because of the enzymes in the body that are released when you taste something sweet.

They also contain high fructose corn syrup, and aspartame.
