    Question OTC weight loss aids

I watched a few minutes of an infomercial about a weight loss aid called Sensa today. I have seen other infommercials advertising other aids. I see them on store shelves and get stupid spam emails about them.

But I can't help but wonder... do they work? Will they hurt me? Are there side effects I should worry about? What happens if I stop using them?

Anyone ever tried them with great, good, or not so good results? No judgements just looking for actual women's thoughts on the matter.

If there was a magic pill that made people lose weight, there wouldn't be anyone who was over weight. Proper diet and exercise is the only healthy, proven method. Just think of all the diet pills that have been pulled from the market or given people serious negative side effects. I've never met anyone who has taken a diet pill, lost weight and then kept it off and led a healthy lifestyle.
But I have met plenty of people who have changed their eating and exercise habits and had a lot of success.

Thanks! That is the feedback I was looking for with this. I just haven't ever talked to anyone who has had luck with them. Do you have a weight loss program like WW or Jenny Craig that you think is effective?

I've known some people who have had success with weight watchers. But the bottom line is that you have to commit to it and be willing to put the time and effort into changing your lifestyle. It can't be viewed as a temporary fix, or diet if you will.
My best advice would be to put your money into a gym membership and some healthy cookbooks and spend your time exercising and educating yourself on living a healthy lifestyle.
the problem with WW and/or JC is that 1. it costs a lot of money, 2. when the program is over....you're on your own. You would be doing yourself a favor by putting that time and effort into doing it yourself, then you have the power and knowledge to continue it forever.

I think sourpuss is 100% right. the key is to change your diet and exercise patterns and basically much of your lifestyle BUT it would definately be a positive change. One of my mate, she is doing I think Jenny Craig, she says she has seen a bit of success but again as sourpuss says, this might just be temporary with a much strong backfire later on. So, keep up a balanced diet and exercise and try to lose weight naturally rather than artificially.

The only OTC weight loss aid on the shelves is called Water. Drink that and it will be of great benefit in the long run. You are only buying into the placebo effect with those infomercials or "only CURE to weight loss" spam chain magic pills.

I have been fighting my weight for 2 yrs now. I have tried the OTC pills. Hydroxycut (sp?) and small world, I even tried Sensa. The Pills I HATED. They are huge and you have to take 3 of them. I took them for a while and saw nothing. Like many tho, i didn't change anything else so I didn't lose. Sensa, well I dont know how much you know about it but its actually a powder you sprinkle on your food. On everything you eat. they say its tastless, it so it not. I'm not a fan of everything I eat being gritty. Either way, these things don't work. People buy into the ads that say they will do this and that and usually people wont change their eating habits or exercise habits in the process. The bad news is that we can have everything we want. If we eat high fat foods, we will gain, if we dont exercise, we will gain.

People dont realize that our bodies do not want to be fat. It's amazing how fast you can lose weight if you just try. I changed my way of eating and have lost 20lbs just from that. I'm still trying to find a schedule that works with me at the gym so I haven't gone in about 3 weeks. Yet I'm still dropping weight because my body is using what I take in as fuel. they only way to take it off and keep it off is a total lifestyle change. Its not a diet, diets are temporary. If you eat healthy now and then go back to the way it was later, you're gonna gain again.
