A couple years ago I was on Zoloft for quite a few years and I ended up gaining 50 lbs. I think that was due to lack of exercise and poor diet. Although, I know that antidepressants are known for weight gain, I can't completely blame it all on that like most people do. Anyway, recently I had some anxiety issues so was put on Citalopram (Celexa) and within the last 3 months, I've gained 10 lbs. The thing is, I got laid off about 2 weeks after I started this medication, so I don't know if its because I am no longer on a regular schedule, and I know I've been taking in more alcohol (I am on a women's bowling league).
I guess my question is, is it possible to lose weight while on a SSRI? Has anyone every lost weight while on an SSRI (and not as a side effect)? I guess if it is the medication that is making me gain, I want to stop taking it, but I fear my anxiety will come back.
~Today, any person can fight the battles of one day It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternity's- yesterday and tomorrow, that we break down. It is not the experience of today that drives people mad. It is the remorse of bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Let us therefore, live but one day at a time.~
You're probably just going to have to be more diligent about your exercise and healthy eating. Exercise will help with the anxiety as well, so there's two reasons right there to get up and moving. :-)
