Im a 20 year old 7 month newly wed. I recently found out im pregnant just about 2 months. Im 5 foot and 230 pounds. Ive battled with thyroid and i lost alot of weight and it went away but ive gained the weight back and i dont want my thyroid to come back at all none the less while im pregnant. I need a safe way and some safe tips to try to lose the weight without hurting my baby. Im not really sure what is safe and what isnt, how to push yourself in a good way and in a bad way. i just want to make sure i do this right. I heard that if you exercise durning the pregnancy your baby will have in an increased heart rate and will more then likely be more active and less change of being over weight. can i have some advice on how to lose weight the safe way while being pregnant?

There is nothing wrong with exercising and eating sensibly while pregnant, in fact, it is encouraged. The last word you should have in your vocabulary while pregnant is 'diet'.

Walk, walk, walk. As far as losing weight, you really need to talk to you Dr about that. I wouldn't recommend that being a goal, but rather keep your weight gain to a minimum.

Focus on your nutrition and walking. A few good books you may want to pick up are. I'm Pregnant! Now What Do I Eat? and Feed the Belly: The Pregnant Mom's Healthy Eating Guide.

I don't think losing weight while pregnant is going to be easy, nor safe. Before trying anything, consult your OB-GYN. I would focus on keeping the thyroid issue under control, as with your blood sugar, cholesterol level and blood pressure. Yoga could be a good thing to do, but the forms have to be modified for you. Likewise, walking also helps - but never ever over-exert.

Again....please consult your doctor before doing anything that might adversely affect you and your baby.

Like Lana said, walk.......walk.....and walk some more. BUT be sure you're eating healthy. Look at this way, if you could start ALL over in life in regards to your weight, diet, etc.......what would you do differently? DO THIS for your baby, because this is his/her first chance at life. That means, give up the junk food. Eat lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains. Drop the caffeine, drop the sugary sweets. Eat a WELL BALANCED diet so that your baby can start it's life getting the best of the best nutrients.

Ultimately, your doctor needs to be aware of any approve any sort of exercise routine you intend to be on during pregnancy. But most women are encouraged to be physically active during pregnancy, not only for the benefit of the baby, but being in good shape and flexible helps during labor as well.

    Congrats. Good luck!!

You may not get as much weight during pregnancy, you may, as a thin person. However, it is a very bad idea to intentionally lose weight, or deliberately not gain weight, while you are pregnant. Can not get all the nutrients babies need the fat from your store, and it needs the same amount of food, as the baby of a thin person. Large women are more dangerous during pregnancy inadequate.
