Hi, my name is Hannah and I am new to this site. I kick started a diet and workout plan yesterday and I feel I am going to have trouble sticking to it already and it's only the second day! I'm going to do this though! I am 19 and I recently went to the doc and found out my home scale is broken or just very sweet. According to my in home scale, I was weighing around 152-156. I went to the doctor and found out I am actually weighing in at 178 1/2 lbs. This may not be such a huge deal but I am also only 5"0! according to the height and weight chart I looked at, I'm only supposed to be weighing 111-127... I don't know how realistic it is for me to get down to 111 but I am hoping to get back to at least 135 by the end of March.
I am just here looking for support and women to relate to through this process.

    Hannah, welcome to the site!

First off, let me assure you that it is doable, but it is going to take time. Two very important things:
    1) you need to monitor your food. Figure out how much you are eating, make healthier eating choices and avoid things with a lot of fat/sugar content.
    2) You need to work out. That doesn't mean you have to go out and start training for a marathon. It does however mean that you should start by doing something if you aren't already. If you're new to exercise, I would suggest a trainer. If you cannot afford a trainer, I'd suggest walking and maybe getting some 3-5 lb weights starting out. You can find tons of exercises online or even pick up one of the many women's fitness magazines available. I'd try to start with doing 30 minutes of exercise 4 days a week. Then as you start to build up endurance, you can walk faster/jog and also get some heavier weights.

OH and one more thing (so I guess 3)... Set small goals. 43 lbs may seem like a huge goal but if you set small goals like 10 lbs. Then another 10 lbs...etc it seems more manageable. Give yourself a reward for completing each phase. a new book, a pedicure, a massage, new outfit, etc....
If you smile when no one else is around, you really mean it.

Good for you Hannah! Happy to hear you're starting a new healthier lifestyle.

Just be wary of "dieting" First, "diet" implies and can create a mindset that it isn't permanent. If you want to lose weight, keep it off, and have a healthy body - this is going to be a lifestyle change that you stick with for the REST of your life. Second, most diets out there aren't very healthy (thinking diet shakes and bars, or those drink detox things, etc). You can eat plenty of food, nourish your body with the fuel it needs to be a fat burning machine, and (best of all in my book) never be hungry - if you're eating the right kinds of foods. Think tons of fresh produce (veggies specifically, 2 or 3 servings or fruit), whole grains, lean proteins.. this is key to being healthy in general, not just a healthy weight.

Also, as you go along your weight loss plan (eating healthy and exercise), try not to be too consumed with the #'s on the scale. The scale can deceive us and discourage us when it doesn't say what we want. Menstrual cycles, changes in fat and muscle, illness, etc can all cause our weight to fluctuate, sometimes pretty drastically. That can cause a sense of failure and ultimately giving up. Better option - keep tabs on how loose your clothes are fitting, get measuring tape and measure yourself once a month, and take notice of your increased energy and stamina in daily activities. These things will show you that you're making progress better than any scale can!

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on your plan and how you're doing as you work through it! I've been on a weight loss plan since June myself, and let me tell you the first few weeks are the hardest I've learned (as you're changing all your old habits, fighting cravings, dealing with sore muscles from exercise, etc).. but if you get through it you're well on your way!
