Hi all, I'm getting desperate. I'm my heaviest at 270lbs now, and I can't control it anymore. I've tried just about everything, but I can't stick to it, even when it starts working. I can keep up with a good regimen for about a week or two, the end up giving in a little here, a little there, or forget about it entirely. The last time I had things under control was when I was working and ate at Subway for lunch and had a good breakfast every morning, and even lost 15lbs! But now I have since lost that job and in the past year and a half I've gained 60lbs to where I am now, and have lost all hope. I'm only 22 and should be out having fun, and in all honesty, I just want my wonderful boyfriend to be able to pick me up in his arms without breaking his back...

It's just so much work and I think what I need is at least a friend who is going through the same thing, or even someone encouraging just to talk to who understands. Other people have tried to help, but they only want to lose 10-15lbs, instead of 100! Then they say, "it's not hard, you just have to do it!" Easy for them to say.

Sorry, I rant too much, I know. The things I love to do all involve sitting at a computer or a desk. I need someone to help keep me on track, to keep me from losing hope, to work on our health together, and I'll do the same for them! All-in-all I need a friend too, even if we just type together. I'm tired of being fat and restricted in what I can do, and a complete lack of self-confidence. Someone help me?

You found the right forum. Welcome!

Your main goal is to lose weight, right? Do you have any other health issues, surgeries, injuries? Do you take any medication and what for? More stuff....

    1. Tell us your diet and what it consists. Maybe we could help you plan it out. Losing weight is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and you definitely need support. Adopt a healthy balanced diet and snack on healthy - low calorie alternatives that are natural and organic. Also, drink water instead of soda.

    2. Do you plan to work out along with dieting? I definitely recommend that, unless there is a condition we need to be aware of. For a start, you should at least spend 30 minutes a day walking around the mall, or maybe a treadmill. How do you prefer to work out? Do you need a trainer? What type of workout would you like? Do you like to dance, join a yoga class or a pilates class? What I found out about myself is that I need someone who can do one-on-one with me. I signed up at a gym but I just couldn't get myself to trust the guy to help me. I don't have that much respect for him (long story)....so I resorted to P90-X DVD workouts. That is what I am doing now, a bit at a time. And I am sore everyday. I'm not losing weight yet, but at least I feel better now. (I am not fat, but I need to lose 10 more pounds for health reasons).

    3. Do you go about emotional eating at some point? I do. What a fellow WH-Mod told me helped me immensely. She told me to recognize the difference between "hunger" and "craving" and when you crave, that is when you tell your mind you're not hungry, and just not eat. If you want, you can snack on nuts and other healthier stuff. The answer to dieting is not to stop eating. It's eating more frequently with smaller servings and with healthier, natural food - the least processed the better.

    4. List down what you eat in a journal for a week and get back with us. Tell us what you discovered. At this point, do not jot down the calories yet. Just make a list.

    5. Just get back with us as often as you can so we can help you more. Finally, be patient with yourself. Only you can make a difference for yourself. We are only here to support you.

Yes I want to lose weight, but I want to be fit more than anything. I want to be able to run with ease and not dread going up those flights of stairs. I haven't seen a doctor in a few years(due to insurance complications) but the last time I went my nutritionist said I was pre-diabetic and should cut out any processed sugars and simple starches. I haven't exactly done that yet but I'm not as bad as I used to be. I was going along with the South Beach diet (at the time still living with my parents) which is how I was able to lose 20lbs, and it seemed like a easy transition for me as well. Now however, I'm buying for both me and my boyfriend and good quality food just isn't as cheap as the boxed stuff sometimes. I'm always open to try new things though, and he's not picky either!

    1. Well, my diet isn't the best, but it's not too bad at least. Due to strict budgeting, I have to stick to cheaper foods--mainly starches--like pasta, potatoes, eggs, and cereals. But I do my best to keep fresh fruits and veggies (apples, Romaine lettuce, grapefruits♥), along with dairy like cottage cheese, yogurt, and block cheese available as well. Over the past couple years I've cut out a lot of sugars, but I still consume a lot as well. Huuu~uuge sweet tooth. When I get drinks out I go with diet(mainly due to arising health issues), or water, or juice. I don't eat out often, as an average maybe 3-4 times a month.

    2. I have a lot of energy and some even said I'm still pretty fit for a person my weight(not to say I don't need to get my butt moving though!)and should be able to burn easily once I start working out. I like walking outside, though it's tough in the winter, and playing sports like basketball and baseball, but I can't find anyone to join with me. I did sign up at a gym a while ago, but the staff was less than helpful and I just didn't enjoy working out around 20+ people.

    3. Emotional eater? Definitely. I get bored, I eat. I get stressed, I eat. I get tired? Yup I eat. I *try* to stick with fruits to snack on, or plain popcorn, but I veer off plenty of times.

    4. I will!

    5. Thank you! I definitely want to be the me that's in there somewhere under all the fat, haha.

Default Need ways of staying commited to loosing weight?

Hey, this is from a previous post of mine - I hope it helps you in some way.

Question:So what is keeping you from loosing the weight? Answer:You are keeping yourself from success, NOT circumstances - Us.

So just for a second, let's dump everything we know or have ever learnt about weight loss. Maybe it's time for a paradigm shift.

Everyone in here is intelligent enough to know that there is no magic pill. If you think there is then good luck finding it and report back please!

    Ok, deep breath....lets get started....

    Internal Processes vs External Results

Basically, before an external result can be achieved, something internal needs to happen or change. So maybe we are focusing in the wrong area?

When you think about loosing weight, what do you think about? Maybe some of these words come to mind: jogging, treadmill, exercise, healthy eating, eating less, vegetables, etc. You get the point. All these words are external, physical things. Now don't get me wrong, these things are responsible for getting the weight off, but how do these things manifest? Something internal has to take place before you do one or more of the external things.

    Two examples:

    1. Negative Internal Process:"Nothing I try works, I just can't loose the weight. Who cares what I look like anyway."

External result: Eat more than needed, refrain from exercising.

    2. Positive Internal process: "I really want to look great for the wedding in 6 months."

External result: Run on the treadmill everyday for 20 minutes.

So instead of cultivating the external processes of weight loss, let's focus on the internal processes which are directly responsible for the external results.
It's like we have been doing it backwards, let's start with the inner stuff. And how do we do that? That's a great question!

    Lets dig in....

The 7 steps to achieving a weight loss orientated mind (I'll just start with the first 3 because it's getting late and I'm tired.

I have kind of just summerized it here, but you will get the idea.

    Step one.

    Your ultimate senerio:

Think of an idealized image/event where you look thinner and feel great. We are going to refer to this as your Ultimate scenario.
    What is your ultimate scenario?
Imagine this next level of your life - write it down - what does it look like?
Write down how you feel inside (internal processes), and write down what your life looks on the outside (external results) Note: You will probably notice how the internal things are congruent with the external things - this is no consequence!

In this exercise, I want you to write it as if its already happened. So write in the present tense - "I woke up this morning and....."

How about this, if you feel like responding to this post, share with us what you wrote for this exercise, I'd really love to hear it.

    Step two

    Shift your Inner voice:

What does that voice inside of your head sound like? For example:

When you are about to eat that item of food that you know your body doesn't need, what tone does the voice inside your head have? Is it a weak tone that says, "you really
shouldn't be eating that". Or is it a confident, strong tone that communicates with authority: "You don't need to eat that, you will not eat that".
See the difference? Which one are you more likely to listen to?
    This is key.

    Step 3

    Start feeling good about/embracing processes

This step is key to your success and encompasses the overall concept here! Let be honest, most of us want instant gratification don't we? Well, I believe that we think we want things straight away but the truth is that we don't. Let me explain, if it was possible, who of you would take a chopper to the top of mount everest? I guess I would, it would be interesting to get there quickly and look at the view but is that what it's really about? No, not for me at least, what is that value in that? I want to say that I climbed mount everest! How much more beautiful would the view be if you had just completed such a great feat. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, that's the bottom line.

So let's start getting excited about the process and be motivated by each tiny step that we are taking. It's exciting and the further along you get, the more results you see and the more motivated you become - the snowball effect.

It's been great sharing with you and I hope that you got something from this post. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this post, I'm sure I could learn a thing or two from you guys.

Let me know if you liked this and want me to share the next 4 steps!

"I finally hit my goal weight today. My ultimate goal weight, and what I haven't been since I was 14. I feel light, energetic, and beautiful. I feel like me, instead of being trapped inside that fat person's body, I was in MY body, and wasn't held back anymore from what I wanted to do. I can swim, I can run, I can talk to that cute guy without being ashamed, and most importantly, I don't mind looking at myself in the mirror anymore. No more averting my eyes from all reflective surfaces. I can wear what I want and know I'm not embarrassed. The life I always wanted but never had is finally here, and I love it."

    Step two

    Shift your Inner voice:

What does that voice inside of your head sound like?
It's definitely a weak sliver of a voice. Kind of like "You probably shouldn't eat that, but this one won't hurt it."

Yes! Please share the next 4! This post actually made me want to lose weight, instead of it just being gone (though truth be told I'd offer my left leg to be instantly fit). I feel a bit more like it's an achievable goal, instead of trying to grab clouds out of the sky.

    Hey! *Waves*

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm 23 and currently weigh around 235 now BUT I'm only 5'1 so you can imagine that height/weight combination doesn't mix very well. My back and feet hurt all the time. When I was a freshman in college, I had lost a lot of weight and got down to 152 but gained it all back PLUS more >=( I would love for my boyfriend to be able to pick me up and throw me around and he did when I weighed around 160 but hasn't even attempted to do it since I've gained the weight. I almost feel I've cheated him because I wasn't this overweight when we met. My ultimate goal weight is 120 so I need to lose about 115 pounds. Feel free to message me through here! I'd love to discuss things with you!
