    Hi,
Today is day 1 of my new diet and exercise plan. I am the mother of a 5 year old and 19 month old. After the birth of my second son I have been on a weight rollercoaster. At 6 weeks postpartum I was 10 pounds above my prepregnancy weight and between a new job and finishing school, I have managed to climb up to 20 pounds more than my prepregnancy weight. Keep in mind my baby is no longer a baby but a walking, talking toddler.

I have horrible abdominal muscles and an umbilical hernia and with my weight gain my stomach protrudes. Sooo I am constantly getting asked by friends and coworkers if I am pregnant!! This is horrible to me and has really made me feel depressed, sometimes making me just want to eat more.

Soooo I have decided to do something about it and lose the extra weight!!

My plan includes taking before pics in my favorite bikini.
Reducing my caloric intake to 1200 calories a day
    Eating more fruits and vegetables
    Ditching pop altogether!!
    Eating more fiber
To stay out of my childrens snack foods including cookies and ice cream.
Drinking 8-10 cups of water a day.
    Eating more lean protein.

Doing cardio 30 minutes a day on my days off of work along with strength training 3 times a week.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

I always suggest using fitday.com. It is an online way to manage your calories. It worked for my husband and I, between monitoring our calories and walking every day (we did four miles)...he lost about 100 pounds and I lost 35. Now I will admit, about 20 of mine is back....because I completely stopped managing what I ate and am just really sick so it's hard to work out....but my husband has kept his off with diet changes.

I would suggest researching healthy foods. Not just eating Smart Ones and things like that...but actually learning about how to cook healthy, filling foods.

Congrats on taking control of your health! Sounds like you will be off to a good start. Good luck.
Keep track of your calories and your exercise. Make weekly activity goals and stick to them.
Get rid of the cookies and ice cream all together, it's too tempting to even have it in the house. Not to mention, kids should have healthy snacks.

You know, we didn't actually get rid of those foods. Instead we visited places like Whole Foods, found healthier versions and then measured them out. That way, if we were around 1300 calories, we could still have a small bowl of sorbet or something for just another hundred calories or so. It allowed us to still enjoy junk foods without going overboard. But this does take dedication...you have to measure and record everything you eat.
