With my 30th Birthday approaching in March I decided back in November that I need to be healthier and lose some weight. I joined my local Curves and began eating healthier. It's been 3 months and I've only lost 3lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago and have heard that people with PCOS have more trouble losing weight. I tried taking Metformin when I was first diagnosed but couldn't deal with the side effects. Does anybody have any tips for weight-loss for somebody with PCOS? My starting weight was 294lbs (though most people say I don't look like I weigh that much), my goal is to get my weight down to 220lbs and then go from there.

Glad to hear that you've made your decision for such a life change! Two questions I have

    1. What is the routine at curves like?
    2. Have you looked into a healthy eating plan at all? Eating is about 70% of the formula to success. Focusing on caloric intake and sticking to unprocessed and whole foods.

I may be able to help you with some advice. I have PCOS or should I say had PCOS. I started taking herbal supplements and I worked out. I lost close to lbs and I had a baby boy. It is little harder for us to lose weight, but It is more important for us to live by a stricter diet, like NO white carbs. Like white rice, bread, pasta.... Just say NO. Its not worth your ovaries! :-) (edit personal details)

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, 15. I am now (at 27) on my own weight loss journey. I don't eat any white flour, or anything with hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup. I am also on a limited calorie diet of 1200 per day. I eat whole grains and focus on fiber and protein in my meals so I never feel deprived. My plan also includes working out on a treadmill 4 times a week. In these past 9 weeks I have lost 31 pounds. I would suggest that you read a book called the PCOS Diet Plan. It really opened my eyes to the reality of my diagnosis. It is written by an OB/GYN who has worked with many many women who share the diagnosis! I hope this helped
