warrich, welcome to the Forum...
This forum provides opinions, we are not Doctors, although you may be best to look up local nutritionists in your area.
Having said that a Doctor is a good idea, to have a blood test for cholesterol levels...
The key to losing weight other than having "will power" the "I can do approach", is to not eat fatty foods, keep your meat content down to half your usual size consumed always have alot of vegetables or salad, which should be 2/3rds of your plate, snack on a handleful of nuts, vegetable sticks, eat low fat yoghurt for breakfast, omlettes, cut out bread, drink alot of water and cut down coffee...
White meat is better for you, without fat.
Fish is fantastic grilled with lemon, Salmon is a great source..
But, a nutrition will advise you better, based on your weight and therefore calorie in-take required and can also provide you with menu's to work with.
Will / does your wife support this, or is she not around?
Keep the junk food out of the cupboard and walk 20 minutes a day every day....
