    Hello! I'm new to this site, and was hoping I could get some advice on how to get into a more healthy and active lifestyle. I find I turn to food whenever I am bored or when I am stressed or upset about something. I find comfort in it. I know I have to make a change, and I really want to but I don't know how to go about it. I find there is so much information on the internet about how to eat healthy and such, that it's very overwhelming. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice about losing weight, the healthy way, and where to start. Thanks!

    I think if you use the search feature you would find some great advice on here.

    there are so many ways to "weight loss" and everyones different which may contribute to why there's so much conflicting info.

    in my experience its about incorporating resistance training, cardiovascular training and healthy eating. It might sound like a lot to do but you can tailor these to fit your daily routine. Good luck!

    What I did was changed my eating habits! 1st I started eating breakfast. I used to never eat in the mornings. I chose food low in sugar and watched my carb intake. Started eating a lot more fruits and veggie too!!! The only problem I had was that I always felt hungry. Even though I was making healthy snack choices, I was always grabbing something to eat. My stepmom was using Slimmies to control her appetite so I gave them a try too. It really did help a lot. I stopped snacking so much and I seemed to be losing weight at a faster rate. It says that it boosts metabolism and I think it really did! If you want to look into these as well here is their site: (no links)

    There is not one thread of clinical evidence that any of this garbage you are consuming does anything for you or your metabolism.

    The only thing that gets thin is your wallet.

    Do you have any idea what these things are that you are consuming? Did you know that they are not regulated by any governmental agency? Without regulation, they are free to claim almost anything in order to get you to buy them.

    Make sure you know what it is you're taking, where it came from and what it can do to you, before you consume it.

    Your body is a temple...treat it accordingly.

    10 Eating Mistakes That Slow Metabolism

    You Don't Eat Enough
    You need to cut calories to lose weight, but it's important not to overdo it. Going too low delivers a double whammy to your metabolism. When you eat less than you need for basic biological function (about 1,200 calories for most women), your body throws the brakes on your metabolism. It also begins to break down precious, calorie-burning muscle tissue for energy.

    "Eat just enough so you're not hungry—a 150-calorie snack midmorning and midafternoon between three meals (about 430 calories each) will keep your metabolism humming."

    By eating a meal every 3 to 4 hours, you'll stay satisfied and keep from overeating later in the day.

    You Avoid Caffeine
    Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant, so your daily java jolts can rev your metabolism 5 to 8%—about 98 to 174 calories a day.     Your Carbs are White
    Boost your fiber intake by switching to whole wheat bread, pasta, and eating more fruits and vegetables. Research shows that some fiber can rev your fat burn by as much as 30%. Studies find that women who eat the most fiber gain the least weight over time. Aim for about 25 g a day—the amount in about three servings each of fruits and vegetables.

    Your Water is Room Temperature
    German researchers found that drinking 6 cups of cold water a day (that's 48 ounces) can raise resting metabolism by about 50 calories daily—enough to shed 5 pounds in a year. The increase may come from the work it takes to heat the water to body temperature.

    Your Diet Needs to Pump Iron
    Iron-rich foods are essential for carrying the oxygen your muscles need to burn fat, says Lakatos. Until menopause, women lose iron each month through menstruation. Unless you restock your stores, you run the risk of low energy and a sagging metabolism. Shellfish, lean meats, beans, fortified cereals, and spinach are excellent sources.

    You're Missing This Crucial Vitamin
    Vitamin D is essential for preserving metabolism-revving muscle tissue. Unfortunately, researchers estimate that a measly 4% of Americans over age 50 take in enough through their diet. Get 90% of your recommended daily value (400 IU) in a 3.5-ounce serving of salmon. Other good sources: tuna, shrimp, tofu, fortified milk and cereal, and eggs.

    You've had One Tipple Too Many
    Skip the second cocktail. When you have a drink, you burn less fat, and more slowly than usual, because the alcohol is used as fuel instead. Knocking back the equivalent of about two martinis can reduce your body's fat-burning ability by up to 73%.

    You're Not Getting Enough Dairy
    "There's some evidence that calcium deficiency, which is common in many women, may slow metabolism," says Lakatos. Research shows that consuming calcium through dairy foods such as fat-free milk and low-fat yogurt may also reduce fat absorption from other foods

    Great tips on healthy eating Seeker_Advice, and those along witha regular exercise routine will soon see changes in you Katie. Try to do about hald an hopurs fairly vigorous exercise every day as well as eating sensibly and weight loss is acheivable. Good luck and keep us posted.
    Corine, I don't think it is appropriate to change someone else's thread onto yourself like that. Let them have their say with their answers. Keep to the point. What you have to say though is important too though so why don't you begin your own thread.
