    Hey Guys,

I'm 21 years old and about a month ago I decided it was time for me to change my life style. At the time my weight was 294. I couldn't believe it. As of yesterday my weight was 284. I'm glad that I'm going down and would one day like to weigh 140.

I'm just looking for some helpful tips and maybe some people to share our weight loss stories and struggles.

    Thanks for reading!

    Kim

Hi Kim! Good for you for making the decision to be a healthier, more vibrant YOU! You have no idea how much I love to hear someone looking to lose weight say they want to change their lifestyle. This is HUGE and you're already lightyears ahead of most people with the same goal, as they're looking for the easy way out - and you already know this is going to change your whole life for the better!

I'm on my own weight loss journey... I am 25 and in the past year-ish (since June 7 of last year) I have lost nearly 70 lbs, and 6 dress sizes. No magic pills, no diets, no junk/infomercial exercise equipment. Just eating healthy, filling, delicious foods and exercising to a level that was intense for me at whatever stage I was in during my journey. It is hard and can be a struggle... but the harder you work, the easier it gets.

can you tell me about what you're doing now? What do you eat or drink in a day and when? What exercises are you doing now?

For me, it was about eating 3 square meals a day. Tons and tons and TONS of veggies (and some fruit, but not as much), fresh if at all possible for the most nutritional benefits. Lean meats only (fish and poultry, only eating pork or red meat once a week at most). Whole grains only - whole grain pastas and whole grain breads only. Low fat/low sodium dairy in moderation. No junk foods, obviously. No soda, no juices, no gatorades - none of that! Only water (flavor with fresh fruit if you like), and the occasional glass of milk or soy milk (especially after a really intense workout!)

Exercise - Try to exercise 6 hours a week... 4 cardio, and two weight training. I would suggest signing up to a gym that offers classes to start you off. It will give you an idea of the intensity level you need and the instructors will help you on your form. But if the classes aren't for you, you can find plenty of ideas on fitness websites online.

It can all be a bit overwhelming... you're going to be making some huge changes in your life, but know that it will all be for the better. You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish and how far you're come if you stick to it. As for me, I've signed up to do my first sprint distance triathlon... if you would have asked me a year ago if I could/would do anything of the like, I would have looked at you like you were bonkers.

Keep coming here and posting... let us know if you have any questions. There are lots of people here who have the know-how about healthy living habits!

Drink tons of water it flushes you and is good for you. People tend to forget the calories they get from liquids. Also look into some natural detoxes to help you get a jump start. You would prob lose about 10 pounds from the detox alone. It and the water will clean your system and help you lose weight.

It would be regained as detox means fluid loss, water loss is not the target weight loss in question. A lot of health professionals do not support detox methods because it is merely a time of lacking nutrients and a promotion of diarrhea.

I'm pretty good about keeping track of what I eat. They say that right now at my weight to healthy lose 2 pounds a week I should eat about 1600 cal a day. I also try to eat no more then 100grm of carbs a day which is hard because I love pasta. I don't really drink alot of soda, If i do have a glass it is diet. I drink alot of water and crystal light.

I try to go for a walk everyday. The walk ranges from 1.5 miles to 3.5miles it just depends on the day.

I'm trying really hard but I do have bad day :/

2 lbs a week is a great goal to have, and a healthy pace to lose weight! Try not be be so hard on yorself or beat yourself up about the bad days. we're all human and nobody is perfect! The key is to not let those indulgences ruin the rest of our day/week/month... sometimes people think "Well, I ate that cookie so now my whole day is screwed, guess I'll just do what I want and start fresh tomorrow." Don't fall into this trap... recognize you slipped up, and get back on the wagon right away or you will just be sabotaging your progress. Try to think about WHY you slipped up, and what you could do differently next time so it doesn't keep happening. You need to hold yourself accountable to what you eat. But you also can't be so hard on yourself that you stop trying anymore.

Do you eat a lot of fresh produce? If not, start now!

The walking is a great start.. try to encorporate more intensity on those walks. You want to get your heart rate up and breathing a bit heavier. So try speed walking or even jogging if you can for 45 seconds and then slowing down again to a normal pace to recover. then repeat. You can also bring hand weights with you on your walk to make it just a little bit harder. Just something to give you that extra BOOST so you're in an ideal fat burning zone in your exercise. Try to stay dedicated to walking every day, and push yourself to make it a really good workout. The more you do this, the more fat you'll burn and you'll find yourself being able to go longer, faster, stronger in those walks. Eventually, you might just jog the whole distance if you keep on pushing yourself.

One thought that might keep you on track - have you thought about signing up for a 5k run/walk in your area later in the summer or fall that you could train for? Maybe sign up with a friend? This will give you a real life goal to work towards, and may keep you on track more.

Lord knows there are days that I induldge in junk and/or don't exercise... we all get those. But we have to remember that one bad day can't stop us from reaching those goals. I have to snap myself out of it. Part of this is just plain mental jujitsu, to kick myself in the arse and GET BACK ON TRACK.
