I started weight watchers 2 weeks ago (November 1) and I have lost 4 lbs so far through my daily point allowances and 45 min of cardio per day. I did have two "bad food days" - one being a trip to Orange Leaf with two friends, and the other being a very sad binge on THREE slices of pizza. However, those both fell within the two weeks and I still managed to lose 4 lbs.
I am quite pleased with my results and I am hoping to keep the weight off and continue to lose before Christmas because I will be traveling quite a bit and want to look my best.
I am at college so it is not hard to stay away from my favorite foods - anything and everything SUGAR. Sure there is a dessert bar, but I just don't go to it. I don't keep snacks in my room.
Next week I'll go home for Thanksgiving break. There will be sugary food that is hard to ignore. I will have easy access. No treadmill or elliptical at home and no gym membership.
I think I can make it through most of the days ok, but I am really concerned about Thanksgiving itself! I think I am really going to want some turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing. Actually, I know that I will! I am going to want some pumpkin pie and my delectable Spinach Artichoke dip that I only make at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Super Bowl! Hoping that I have lost another 2 lbs by next week, do you think I will gain back all 6 in one day?
I really truly plan to stay with WW all through December, because I like the results so far. I would just hate to undo what I've already worked hard for.
I plan to eat smaller portions but I don't really want to be counting calories.
Will it "ruin" me?
It won't ruin you if you don't let it! Trying to lose weight during the holidays is terribly tough for most people. I know many people on WW who have made the decision to maintain their weight loss, instead of trying to lose more, during the holidays.
You can still enjoy a Thanksgiving feast without losing all your progress if you keep a bit of self control. Don't eat the Turkey's skin, stay away from the dark meat, fill your plate with more veggies and less of the fatty stuff. Can you have your spinach artichoke dip? Sure, but sparingly... and as long as you're making your dip, make a yummy side for dinner too, that you can eat without guilt - cranberry chutney or a "light" greenbean casserole, a "skinny" pumpkin pie, etc. Make something to bring along that is good for you. I'm a big believer in not depriving yourself on these special occasions. Anything good is good in moderation... Don't deprive yourself of the good stuff or you'll probably go mad and end up resenting the day or binge eating. But don't go crazy and stuff your face til you can barely breath either.
Self control. Moderation. Dedication to the plan and your goals. Are you doing the WW meetings? Talk to the people there about how they plan to handle the holidays.
