Post Update

Hi all;

I am still doing GREAT on this diet. I was on vacation all last week, had a huge party for the 4th and I still lost weight WOOOOHOOOOO.

I am now down 35 lbs. Just 15 more to go to my goal. Since losing the weight I am now able to work out a little and my knee and neck aren't bothering me as much. I am trying to work out in the pool as much as possible too.

Keep up the good work everyone and much success to you all!!!!

Hello Everyone,
Congratulations, Gemi23!! You're doing great.
The past week has been rough for me because of TOM (time of the month). When I first started on the shakes I lost 5 pounds in 4 days. I haven't weighed myself but I know I've put some pounds on since the 4th of July. But I have started back on my shakes today. My mini-goal is to lose 2-3 pounds per week. So doing the shakes and exercising I hope to reach my ultimate goal before August 10th (wedding date).

To Momof7 this is how I make my shake:
1 scoop of chocolate protein whey
1/2 banana
1 cup light vanilla soy milk
1 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp flaxseed

The protein whey has 18 grams of protein in it. I purchased it from Vitamin World. I hope that helps!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone,

I am excited to report that I started this diet on July 4th and have lost 4.2 lbs. in 3 days! (Not to mention, I also started my menstrual cycle on the 4th...so I'm losing the weight among the bloating, water retention, etc.) I feel great as well. I am simply amazed at the difference in my energy level in just 3 days and I could swear my nails are getting thicker already. I didn't expect these benefits so quickly. I'm still in need of a copy of the original article in First Magazine so if anyone has one to share, I would be very thankful. My email is jamicluneATstny.rr.com (note: I substituted the "at symbol" for "AT").

Here's what I've been doing:

Morning:
1 c. light vanilla SILK soy milk
1/2 scoop Whey Protein Powder (20g per full scoop)
1/5 scoop Soy Protein Powder (25g per full scoop)
1/2 c. blueberries
1/2 small banana
(SO YUMMY!!! and gives me the 10g soy/10g whey)

Snack:
Fruit or Yogurt or 63 baby goldfish crackers...under 100 cal.

Lunch:
1 c. light vanilla SILK soy milk
1/2 scoop Whey Protein Powder (20g per full scoop)
1/5 scoop Soy Protein Powder (25g per full scoop)
1/2 c. blueberries
1/2 small banana
(I end up with 20g whey/20g soy after two shakes)

Snack:
Yogurt, crackers...I just keep it under 100 calories

Dinner:
Fri. - Caesar salad with Garlic Croutons (from Williams-Sonoma Bride & Groom Cookbook)...The dressing & croutons are to die for. I'd be happy to share the recipe with anyone who is interested.
Sat. - Pork Chop & Steamed Green beans
Sun. - Potato & Onion Gruyere Tartlets (from Williams-Sonoma Online Recipes). Easy to make and very delicious but I'm a cheese fanatic.

My dinners have been around 300-350 calories tops.

The shakes are quite filling and I really haven't felt starved. The nice thing about this plan is that I will do this long term and consider it a lifestyle change. I've always loved health shakes (but apparently not as much as carbohydrates!). Once I lose the lbs. (about 40 more to go), I'll just cut back to a shake for breakfast or lunch. After reading about the anti-oxidant effects of blueberries, I plan to incorporate a 1/2 c. a day from now on. I didn't realize that they have the highest anti-oxidant levels of any food you eat plus several other benefits a well. I'll keep you all posted on my progress and you do the same!

Good luck to you!

Default to always a dreamer

Thank you for the specifics. One thing I am wondering is does it matter how many grams of sugar are in the shakes? Is this a low carb diet? I want to get this right. Thank you.

Hello,

I'm not really sure of the specifics of the diet as I have not read the original article. I can tell you from personal experience, that I would "watch" the sugar and carb intake but not necessarily eliminate them from the diet. I figure good "simple" sugars come from fruits, etc. so I'm not too worried about that. I would, however, watch processed sugar from soda, etc. I've read most of the previous posts and they haven't really talked about carb & sugar limits too much. I would imagine that just by cutting your dinner intake to 300 calories, etc. your eliminating a lot of extra carbs and sugar. For dinner last night, I had 2 oz. of Ronzoni "Smart Taste" thin spaghetti and 1/2 c. Ragu "Presto" sauce (approx. 300 calories total) and this morning, I was down another 2.4 lbs for a total of 6.6 lbs. in 4 days. I thought I wouldn't lose after eating pasta but I wanted to test it. I really think the key to this diet is the 20/mg of soy, 20/mg whey, 300 cal or less dinner, and two 100 cal or less snacks a day. What you choose as your 300 cal dinner or 100 cal snack appears to be quite flexible.

Should I get the original article, I will pass it along to you. Good luck.

Smile Thank you

Another thing I was wondering is if it matters if I add a Tb of flax oil to my morning shake. This will bring it up another 110 calories. Is this ok? I am sorry to be so complicated. I have actualy been doing the shakes with the flax and adjusting my oyher eating during the day. I feel good but since I haven't followed it very strictly I haven't stepped on the scale since I started, which was also July 4. I was 190Lbs then and I need to loose between 50 and 60. I had my 7th child 14 months ago and have put on more wieght during this last pregnancy than I needed! As I am now in my 40's it is difficult to loose! Thank you all for being so helpful. This seems to help me be morew motivated.
Does anyone know if Missbobbie is still on this program and still loosing wieght? I was encouraged by her entries early on. Again thanks
