If the question that you are asking is if either will hamper your weight loss goals, the answer is...it may or may not. I say this because this will depend on a variety of factors but I'll specifically deal with diet and I will also assume that these are not sugar free or zero carb sodas or candy. To simplify this, when you consume food/drink that has a high sugar content, your blood sugar levels rise. A healthy (non-diabetic) body's immediate reaction is to have the pancreas secrete insulin to lower the blood sugar levels. Now what in the heck does this have to do with weight loss? Well for one, your body cannot burn much of the fat on your body when insulin levels rise rapidly like when you have a pepsi or hershey bar. Secondly, simple sugars like sucrose tend to get stored more quickly as bodyfat as opposed to complex sugars (carbs).

Now when we factor overall caloric intake AND exercise into the mix, you can get the "may not affect you" part. A lower caloric intake allows for the occassional 'cheat' with candy or soda. Exercise lowers insulin levels and encourages your body to use the fat stored on you to be burnt for energy. If you do decide to have the OCCASSIONAL cheat with candy or soda, do it within 1hr after a workout. Insulin levels will rise but the sugar will be quickly converted to another type of sugar that gets stored in the liver and muscle tissue so you will not gain any fat or hinder very much of your progress.

If you have a sweet tooth then have diet soda or diet candy. Read the Nutritional Label to ensure that it is low in or has no sugar. No simple sugar, no rise in insulin, and you're safe

Hope this helps.
