    Hi Everyone!

I'm in a position where I have been recommended to have weight loss surgery. I'm a very big gal and have been all my adult life. Wondering if anyone else has had this surgery and what results they have achieved?

And over what time period too!

I work with a health insurance company and have an idea of the costs involved, but if you could advise on this as well it would be much appreciated!

In gastric bypass, a small portion of your stomach is 'tied off' (stapled) to create a smaller pouch, then the small intestine is redirected and connected directly to this small pouch to allow you to feel full faster and also for less fat etc to get absorbed (correct me if im wrong?)

Lap band is less invasive and has far fewer risks than gastric bypass. a band is placed around the stomach (kind of like the staples) creating that smaller pouch i was talking about earlier. again, this just makes you feel full faster. the band can be adjusted and removed unlike gastric bypass surgery. you'll also have much less scarring.

If you have an EXTREME amount of weight to lose gastric bypass may be a good choice, but as far as i'm concerned lap band seems like a much safer alternative with comparable results. i havent done too much research on the topic, but this is what i do know and i hope this helped you out a bit!
