How about moving the chatbox at the top of the page, so that more people can see it easily? It's easy to forget about it when it is where it is.
I agree, it would make it more noticable. Maybe it would even be possible to find a chat add on of some sort, like the games in the arcade. One where you can just copy the code in?

I would suggest creating a poll to ask members where they want the chatbox (top or bottom of the page). If I remember correctly it use to be at the top of the page and some members suggested to have it moved to the bottom of the page. Have the poll close after a week and that will decide where we want to put the chat box.
