    8 Most Common Menopause Symptoms

Decreased production of estrogens may produce unpleasant symptoms of menopause, which can vary from person to person. Estrogen regulates the menstrual cycle and affects the reproductive system, urinary tract, blood vessels, heart, breast, bones, pelvic muscles, skin, mucous membrane, hair and brain. As a result, women may experience the symptoms of menopause throughout the entire body.
The most common menopause symptoms are:
    1. Menstrual cycle changes. Periods may become not as regular as they used to be. Bleeding can be lighter or heavier than usual and can occasionally include spotting. Periods may also be longer or shorter in duration. Often periods occur every 2 to 4 months, especially 1 to 2 years before menopause.
    2. Hot flashes. A sudden feeling of warmth, usually more intense over the face, chest and neck. The skin turns red and the person may feel flushed. Hot flashes can also cause profuse sweating. They may occur 1-2 times a day to 1 an hour, and may last from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.
    3. Vaginal dryness and painful intercourse. It is a particular problem for menopausal women. Signs include vaginal itching, stinging or burning. It often makes sexual intercourse painful and may cause a light bleeding or frequent urges to urinate.
    4. Urinary incontinence. Some menopausal women may lose control of their bladder. They may have painful urination or experience an increased need to urinate, even when the bladder is not full.
    5. Mood swings. Hormone fluctuations affect the mental stability of women during menopause. Women may become irritable, depressed and experience extreme highs and lows in a short period of time.
    6. Sleep problems. These can range from not getting sleep at all or to sleep disorders, like sleep apnea. For menopausal women, increased anxiety and night sweats are the most common cause of sleep problems. Once the night sweats cease and anxiety settles, many sleep problems generally ease.
    7. Weight gain. Metabolism slows during the menopausal transition and after menopause leading to weight gain. It’s necessary to exercise more and eat less to maintain the current weight.
    8. Dry skin and thinning hair. Loss of collagen and fatty tissue affects the skin elasticity and makes it thinner and drier. Low estrogen also contributes to hair loss and may cause hair to become dry and brittle.
If menopause symptoms disturb you greatly or the quality of life is compromised, consult with your doctor about the treatment options, to ease the discomfort. For more information on the most common, visit http://www.ok-pharmacy.com/blog/opti...ms-management/ .
