  • Drinking water before meals

    Is drinking water before meals recommended? If I drink a glass of water before a meal, it takes less of a meal for me to feel satisfied. I'm wondering if doing this for every meal will do good for my weight loss.

    What do you think?

  • I've heard to drink it before. Then I've heard after because doing it before makes the food do something bad, like ferment or rot - something like that. I don't know. If it works for you and you feel fine, then I say do what you like.

    I typically prefer after. I get the same results. I just make sure I'm not stuffing myself and staying slightly hungry. A glass or two of water and a few minutes later and I'm satisfied.

    • You should not drink water before half n hour of meal. If you drink water before all your stomach fluid which helps in digestion will flow out of your body and digestion process will become slow. So its better not to drink water before meal. Even while having food you should drink very less water.
      But once you done with your meal you can drink water.

        • The plan of drnking water for losing weight is like this: drink water 20 MIN before food (yes it will make you feel not so hungry;-))). the second step is not to drink 2 hours after food! ( digestion process will become slow)

            In some condition water has more good effect in our health,like before and after taking bath,early in the morning and before having meal . We should also avoid from drinking water after having meal because its have bad effect on our health.

            • I like drinking a glass of very cold water beforehand, it really does help fill me up a bit. I do not feel as though I am bloated and do not want to eat, but I start to notice that a possible second helping of whatever I am eating just does not sound as appealing.

              • I agree that drinking lots of water is always a good idea, I don't think it's good for getting that feeling of being full. After all, it's just water which your body assimilates pretty fast so that feeling of satiety goes away pretty quick. I always found that filling up on tons of veggies during a meal kept me feeling full for long. And you can't really gain weight by eating broccoli, right?

                    • I am wondering as I read replies where people are getting their information because clearly there is no agreement. Who are the experts on this question? I wonder how many of us just accept answers we get on the Internet without wondering, how do they know this? Until you can validate your answer with some authority, I'd say Experiment and see what works for you. For me, I need a certain amount of water while I'm awake because I can see dehydration in my skin and see the effects on my bowels. If I drink water before meals, it means that for awhile my stomach isn't empty enough to eat what I'd eat without drinking water. Drinking water while eating has the same effect. Experiment. Be curious!

                        • I've heard that if you drink water right before a meal you dilute the enzymes that are required for digestion. Makes sense I think...
