  • Depression

I believe that I may suffer from depression. Everything in my life is fine, nothing majorly disappointing or stressful at all. But I'm not happy. I'm constantly irritable, I can never sleep and when I do I sleep for about twelve hours, and I'm experiencing constant body aches. I don't have the money to seek out professional help. Is there more ways than medicine? I don't really have anyone to talk to about it, I don't want to burden my S/O. Now what?

  • That is what my symptoms are and I have depression. You really do need to get help though. I don't know if there are any herbal supplements, I rememeber hearing a lot about St.John's Wort for a long time. Maybe try looking into holistic supplementation. Be careful though.

    • you might want to try yoga or some other hobby to maybe take your mind off of things. exercise is the best natural remedy to depression. it releases natural seritonin (sp?), a chemical that promotes happiness, in your body and it'll help make you feel better. i know that exercise is the last thing you want to do when you feel like this, but trust me if you don't want to take medicine or don't have money for professional help, give it a try.

you have to put effort in to get progress out.
      good luck.

      • I have suffered depression and anxiety for years and I have not always had the opportunity to get help... one thing i did do is go to my doctor and tell her about my symptoms and she gave me months worth of medication to see if it helped and then gave me samples that she had in the office with months supply(for free). So doctors will work with you to get the help medically you need to get better and treated. Meds are only a temporary thing so you need to find the root of the depression to fix the problem. That is most likely to happen with the aid of a counsellor which is also covered when perscribed by your doctor. (in canada) not to sure about the states.

        • I'm sorry that you're feeling that way, it's horrible, I know.
For me, the first thing I had to do was figure out what was making me so depressed. It's funny, for a long time I was just depressed, with the same symptoms that you have, but I never even thought about what was depressing me. I just felt it, and dwelled in it.

When I really analyzed my thoughts, I came up with a bunch of things: regrets about the past, guilt, shame, body image, and so on.
Figuring out what was making me depressed was really hard to do
I found that I was angry at myself for all kinds of things, but these were really irrational thoughts.

One of the things I try is cognitive therapy. It's designed to help you
identify negative ways of thinking, and then help you develop a more realistic perspective on things. I think Feeling Good by David Burns is the best manual for cognitive therapy.
Those are just a couple of ideas. I was wondering, though, why don't you want to talk to you S/O about it?

Honestly I just didn't want to scare him, or worry him. When I was about seventeen I used to cut myself, he knows this and it really upset him when I discussed it with him. I did say "didn't" in the first sentence. Two days after posting this I felt so burdened by trying to figure out what was wrong with me while keeping it from him. I told him not to worry, that I wasn't going to hurt myself, but that I think something is wrong with me. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook, and keep myself motivated. It helps at times. Only now, I suffer from nausea about every other day, and throw up. Bleh.

            • I'm just starting to get better, in fact just the other night I told my parents about it. It was such I hard thing to do. Though I do feel a little better, I know I have a loooooonnnnngggggg road a head of me... I hope everything turns out okay for you!

              • p.s. stay strong, and good luck!

                  Make a list....

What do you love about you, life what inspires you?

                  What do you hate?

Depression is for a reason, you said you had no money to get help.

That's depressing., i can't have anything or things i want, i'm depressed and it escalates and before you know it, it's creating your life.

If you work out what it is , perhaps money? Then find the cure yourself, what can you do to make more, do you get a part time job, Avon, once you earn more and can do more, it will go away.

                  What is it?

What is it that makes you feel so down?
