  • Allergies recently identified

I have recently been tested and found that I am mildly allergic to:
    Milk
    Eggs
    Corn
    Tomato
    Cashews
    Almonds
    Fish
    Cats
    Dust mites

I am moderately allergic to chicken.

I am not sure what this means for me?

I am aware that my body has built up an immunity to the milder allergies, however, can the chicken one get worse?

I haven't had any reaction to eating chicken and getting the flu needle in the past.

I believe that the three times that I reacted was a mixture of allergies and issues re stress/immune system being down.

    Many thanks

  • Welcome back

How were you diagnosed with all of those?

    Cats/dogs/rabbits/long hair dust sure that's a definate

Eggs and chicken are protein but so is other read meats

Milk / cream / cheese are lactose you may be lactose intollerant

    Do you have dry eyes/mouth/nose?

    • Hi
Thanks, been awhile since I've been back on as I felt there was not much to tell.

I went to a allergy specialist as I had a few reactions to Boonah Chicken and other meals over a three or four month period (at the end of last year). I had a feeling I was allergic to nuts but not anything else in that list, had a few tests by the GP and he wanted to find out why I was still getting hives.

I have never had any reaction to my cat when I was younger, I get asthma only around change of seasons, so it is weird to me.

Since the switch of milk, I have not suffered any issues with drinking milk - so thinking its lactose - always have known.

      • oopss one little detail forgotten - the allergist drew a checkers board on my arm and put oils with these substances in there, waited for me to reaction.

Alot of people are allergic to nuts so definately cut those out, if you were alright with your cat then it's long haired animals that can cause an allergy, chicken I think it's the spices, if you can't tolerate milk either than stay away from nuts, cream, cheese ande only take lactose intollerant substitutes.

Chicken again I think that it's spices so chilli, heat, acid tomatoes / oranges etc stay away from but plain chicken? I can't see that as being a concern.

Nor fish that doesn't make sense...

          • I am wondering that myself about a second opinion. My partner and Personal Trainer think its a weird combination to be allergic to. I do too, however, I feel I cant help being allergic to these things. I have been doing fine with eating this stuff in the past so not sure how it will affect in the future.

I find I am ok with chicken normally (for example, Pad-Thai and chilli flakes).

I have recently for about a year been using lactose free milk (zymil - here in Australia) and have had no issues with it. What I found weird is Yoghurt and cheese and have had no reaction at all.

            • You may want to visit a NAET specialist in your area.

              • Nor fish that doesn't make sense...
Fish is amongst the top allergies populations can have, this also falls into the category of shellfish allergies which is another very common allergy. Often the reason is a protein in fish called parvalbumin. It is also present in shellfish, but being allergic to fish does not necessarily mean one is allergic to other shellfish. Parvalbumin can also be aerosolized so being in a room with someone cooking fish nearby can trigger an allergic reaction if the allergy is strong enough.

People do not get to choose what they are allergic to and allergies can develop even though they were fine before, like having a family pet growing up and suddenly gasping for air later on in life when you have another animal. Some allergies are incredibly common some extremely rare, in any case they do not just go away. Lifestyles must be changed as an allergic reaction is not something to fool around with or second guess. If your allergist said any of the allergies are severe enough to carry and Epipen around then do that and let people around you know that you have one available just in case something should happen.

                • There are several things you can do for the pet dander and dust mites. First of all, you can put a furnace/air filter in your house to reduce the amount of allergens circulating in the air. Febreze makes good cleaners that are hypoallergenic and are used to reduce allergens in the air. Also, there are other allergen reducing filters to use on the vacuum cleaner to reduce the allergen load in your household. As for the food allergies, it is mostly trial and error as to what you can get away with eating. However, avoidance is the best policy with food allergies!
Try not, do, do not. There is no try.

                  • We too have recently discovered allergies here. Two kids, myself and husband. Are we going to give up our dogs? NO! Are we going to rip out our carpet and replace it with hardwood flooring? NO! That is exactly what our Dr. wanted us to do, but who wants to stop living and loving life. Of course sneezing and feeling awful isn't much fun. We are coping by wiping our dogs down when they come in from outside, vacuuming and dusting weekly-should be daily and changing our filters ones a month. Filtrete filters that I have found on the internet come in bulk and I've purchased them in bulk during the off months to have 50% before. The key is to change them once a month and not go with the factory recommendation to change every three months. Hope this helps you sneeze less!
