  • So Frustrated - Need to Vent

My doctor found a lump last month and I'm still waiting to get a definitive answer. The doctor who found it said the test results were normal and didn't mention needed a follow-up. The radiologist said they were cysts and a benign tumor (fibroadenoma) that should be checked every six months. My gyn also found the lump and said the radiologist's findings needed verifying and sent me to a specialist. The specialist thinks everything may be OK, but can't know for sure because the Imaging center sent the wrong images. They promised to resend them and that the images would arrive before the end of the week (today). However, the images only came this afternoon and it's too late for the doctor to review them and give recommendations because she's left for Guatamala! Now I won't hear for sure until after the 20th, a little over a month from when the lump was discovered. I'm so upset with the Imaging center. If they had sent the right images, I would have my answer already. (Incidentally, I'm not really worried about cancer - that's too out there for me to understand. I'm worried about them requesting a biopsy. I have a phobia of invasive procedures, big time.)

  • Have you got the results?

    • Thanks for asking. Yes, although it took a little over a month. It all looks benign (cysts and a fibroadenoma), but we will continue to monitor things. I have a follow-up in July. I opted not to do a biopsy at this time.

I learned a few things. Turns out I have "very dense" breasts so mammograms alone are inconclusive. The diagnostic mammogram showed nothing. When they did the ultrasound, it seemed to me that there were a lot of cysts.

I'm pushing the imaging center to reimburse me the cost of the visit to the specialist because they messed up so badly. There's a possibility that they might actually comply. I plan to follow-up on my complaint this week.
