  • Herbal Treatments for Menopausal Symptoms: Black Cohosh

Hi ladies! I've recently read that new research conducted on the effects of black cohosh when used to treat menopausal symptoms shows that women should be wary of using the herb.

I understand that this plant contains phytoestrogen and has been used as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy. Plus the Native Americans have been using this herb for centuries to treat a whole variety of ailments.

Still, studies published this month even suggested the possibility that black cohosh could lead to kidney failure, even though a 100% link between the two hasn't been established.

It seems that experts can't be sure the herb is beneficial in terms of treating menopausal symptoms. They are even quoted as saying that “the use of black cohosh cannot be recommended.”

What do you think, ladies? Have you tried black cohosh and would you recommend it to a friend?

  • I tried cohosh tea years ago and it is the nastiest tasting stuff around. I'm into natural healing, have to see what I can find out.
