I hate to have my first talk be so down, but I need some advice. I have a hysterectomy 2 years age. I have gained almost 25 lbs and have been on prozac. I have taken myself off of prozac (with the help of my dr). Now alll of my symptoms are back. I don't want to deal with people. I don't really like anyone including my husband and kids!! I snap at my kids and my husband. I don't think that they like me either!! I really don't want to get back on the meds but I don't know if I have a choice. I need some advice from others who has or is going thru the same things. Thanks!!

  • Some things that might help!

Do you think that the Prozac made you gain the weight?! Maybe you just need to sit down and write down the things that are most important to you!!! This will, hopefully, allow you to look at life differently. I know it is hard, but maybe you can concentrate on a new hobby or working out. Maybe you can plan a few days to go to the neigborhood pool with you kids and husband. This will also bring your family together. Just remember that this must also be hard for you husband and kids to see you frustrated. Maybe you can take out your frustrations while working out!?

    • Hi There -- You have to be happy -- If the meds help, that is ok -- Twenty five pounds is not that much -- Maybe you should try to make yourself feel more attractive YOURSELF -- Wear lacey underwear even though no one might see it -- Polish your nails -- Straighten up when you stand, and hold your head up high --

We have to pick ourselves up and make ourselves happy --
I get like you sometimes and I am on Zoloft -- it helps --

I remind myself how lucky I am to have a great daughter and have found much happiness and RELAXMENT in helping her learn to read --

The bottom line is -- In my humble opion -- The meds are ok and we are lucky to have them available to us --

I would highly recommend that you watch the movie "Prozac Nation" -- It is sad, but in the end, it shows us that ALOT of people are kinda depressed and sad -- And we are in much better shape than the girl in the movie!

You certainly dont want to upset your family life and if taking some medicine helps, well then, it's all gonna be ok --

SMILE -- You are not alone

      • Hi ... I am on an andipressant as I suffer from Obsessional Compulsive Disorder... When I first got this 6 yrs ago I fought being on meds but as I was in such a bad way I came to understand that this was what I needed to become able to cope with my problems and now I have a small dosage everyday (a quarter of the amount I was on first) and have accepted I have a mental disorder and needed help, and I and my family are all great. Dont feel guilty for needing medication if you need it.... you are lucky to have an illness that is so easily treated. I also put weight on when I started my meds, but I made an effort to eat healthily and get out walking in the fresh air as much as possible and my weight is better. I try to be as positve as possible because life is too short to worry about things that cant always be changed. Please be happy, and I wish you all the best.
