  • No desire to do anything

I have always suffered from depression but never really knew it. Been taking antidepressants on an off for years. The past 9 months or so I am noticiing something. When friends ask me to go out at night, I no longer want to. Part of the reason is I get too tired and nothing accomplished, and get mean when I drink.

I have not had my hair cut or colored in 8 months. I never wear nailpolish anymore. I would rather stay in bed all day.

I currently live with my parents due to a divorce. I have a job but it does not pay nearly enough to move out! I am in school and have kids and am in my 40's.

I also feel that I don't want to be around the few friends that I have. I don't like how they act and don't want to talk to them or listen to anything they have to say.

I have always been the type to try and look good every time I go out, so I can find a guy. I am desperate for a man. Now, I no longer care or have time to even think about men.

Am I maturing? going deeper into depression?

I also hate my life and feel like I will not be happy until I buy a house, If I ever can!

  • Have you been to a doctor lately? If not, when was the last time?
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
    ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia

    • Am I maturing?
Most definately not........growing older does not warrant the level of negative thinking that you have at the moment. You shsould be growing stronger through experience not getting weaker

I will not be happy until I buy a house
Well this type of thinking is not going to get you anywhere is it? You have to keep things realistic and in motion or you will always end up feeling sorry for yourself and depressed.

So your life is not great at the moment.......welcome to the real world. The question is what are you doing about it? What is the point of moaning and groaning about things and feeling sorry for yourself when you should be trying to better yourself! Posting here is a step in the right direction

The behaviour you have described is definately to do with your depression, everything from your avoidance and distancing from people to not having a haircut etc......so you will need to get help with that.

Speak to your doctor and ask to be referred to a specialist who can help you more on a one-to-one basis.
Plenty of support groups out there like this forum who can help you in a live basis.
Motivation, energy and a clear idea of what you want in life is the key to growing out of this negativity and giving your life purpose. That will come from therapy, medication and from yourself. Make a list of what you want in life and focus on doing the tasks that will achieve them.

It all requires effort. If you are not willing to do the time, pay for the crime.
I am going to tell you what you don't want to hear!
Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't

      • Depression effects millions of people from around the world! Have you seen your doctor lately? Maybe you should consider joining a support group!
Hanging around,it's not a very healthy and positive thing to due! Give yourself a well deserve make-over! Call some of your friends for a "girl's night out"... "I trully hope your life can turn around"...

        • You are going through a lot of changes all at once... it's not uncommon to feel depressed when all the smoke clears from the things currently going on in your life like.... divorcing your husband, moving back in with parents, stress, etc... it's a lot to deal with all at once. I can understand you not wanting to go out, or fix yourself up because currently you aren't looking to find a man, you are just getting rid of one. I don't know what your relationship is with your soon to be ex or the reasons you are no longer together but it's a serious adjustment coping with the end of a serious relationship. You need to give yourself time to let the dust settle from all the changes your life has been going through, as well as mourn the loss of your marriage. It may not seem like it now but thing will eventually get better... they probably didn't fall apart overnight, so chances are it can't be fixed/dealt with overnight either. Give yourself time and try to find positive things to focus on like the fact that you are continuing your education, you and your children have a roof over your head and food on the table (even though it's not the ideal situation, it's only temporary).
