  • not so skeptical about therapy anymore...finally found something that works!

As I have posted before, I have had bouts of depression, stemming to periods of extreme anger and then straight to periods of extreme sadness and guilt. I rapidly cycle through my mood changes. I started seeing a psychotherapist a month and a half ago, and he agrees I have a type of depression, and also maybe a borderline personlity disorder. However, today, he threw the option out there that I may be bi-polar. Not the typical bi-polar person who will go through bouts where they can't get out of bed long enough to brush their teeth one day, and then the next day they run out and spend $50,000. He thinks I may have an atypical bi-polar disorder judging by the fact that I am really not implusive with money/sex/drugs etc. But I do, as I said, rapidly cycle through moods, some mood swings lasting less than 30 minutes over nothing at all. He asked if I would freak out if he labeled my issues as a bi-polar disorder. My response: NO!! THESE MOOD SWINGS SCARE ME! I never know one day from the next, or one hour from the next for that matter, how I am going to act. Going to try what he calls a "psychological cocktail" and figure out what meds work best for me and my issues. Just glad we are finally making progress, this has went on for at least the last 13 years, and I am only 23!! Hoping someone reads this post and realizes that there are other people out there going through the same thing they may be going through, and reach out and try to get some help. I was skeptical aout seeing another therapist, after my last one diagnosed me with ADD as an answer to my issue, but I have finally found one that is willing to listen to me and work with my doctor on a very close basis to get me to where my moods are pretty well even! If you are reading this and are going through something similar, I would advise seeing a doctor and getting referred to a psychotherapist, there is help out there, and life doesn't have to be a roller coaster!
