  • Ideas for solo vacation away from stress?

    Hi everyone,
I've been occupying a lot of the "relationship" boards with my current pain & I've recently decided that I need a sabbatical of sorts right now more than ever. But I have no idea how to go about it, or where would be good to go, etc. I NEVER travel alone and being in relationships my whole life, I have little experience flying solo.

Any tips, travel ideas, experiences, adventures to share? I have about 80 hours vacation time so I'm ready to figure something out. My mental health is exhausted and I need to get away.

    Thanks ladies!!

  • There are way too many possibilities. Try to narrow the categories. Are you interested in a beach vacation, sightseeing in a city locale, camping in a national park or going someplace adventurous. We all have our preferences for each.

With two weeks, I would suggest staying within 4-6 travel hours (by plane, car etc) so you are not spending your precious time traveling or getting used to time zone changes

    • I would really love to involve horseback riding, being outdoors, getting away from things for a while. Not the beach I don't think, more like the country. I'm a country girl at heart and I love horses, so I'd like to incorporate both somehow. What do you think?

      • Unfortunately, horseback riding vacations are not in my wheelhouse. I am sure others can comment. Wherever you go, have fun!

        • Horses and country. There are a lot of places that both can come together. I've been on horse rides and mule rides in the Sierra Nevada. I think I would go to Arizona or Utah if I wanted an adventure with both. I have walked down to Supai, Arizona and camped near the falls. It would be fun to take a mule down and back up due to being to fully appreciate the scenery. I wanted to take a horse into Robber's Roost in southern Utah, but could not get the logistics together. What are you planning?

          • Katz, if it were me I'd do something nearby. Pretty much everywhere has horses and country! A laid back vacation like that sounds very nice, and I'd keep it in the laid back category by not making the travel complicated.

Well if you going to go some places by your self that are a blast try Club Meds they are off the hook. I been with my wife to like 4 of them. Plus before I got married went to 3 of them by my self was off the hook in every way.
When out driving always turn left. Then, should you become lost, you can find your way home by reversing the procedure and always turning right.

              • I agree with Jen. Do something nearby. You can even shut off your phone and other electronic gadgets for those two weeks to give your brain a bit of a break. If you want a scenery change, at least make so that you're not driving too far, but far enough. Maybe like two hours away or something. That way, you're not spending too much money getting there so you have more of it to enjoy yourself.

                • I'd suggest somewhere that is sufficiently dark at night so you can see the full beauty of the stars. Something about seeing the glow of the milky way and the almost infinite amount of stars really helps me to put things into perspective.

That's just nerdy ol' me though

                  • You can always go to Wales the land of sheep shaggers- only joking but if you go to the welsh countryside you can see the beauty of the stars at night. I would also say go to Portugal but that maybe outside your time and budget. Maybe go to a US state that has no one in it like Maine lol. Sorry I dunno what I'm talking about.
It's all fun and games until you mess with a Portuguese girl.

                    • Thank you all so much! It's encouraging just to read all these answers, all the ideas, it feels good. I originally wanted to just run away for a while that was further than it should be but it does sound better to stay closer to home. I'm in Maryland so I thought about somewhere in PA, or even just another part of MD. I always love PA because my mother's family lived/lives there and we visited quite a lot.

I just have no idea where to look! I've never done this before.
