do you feel you need a vacation each year for your mental health?
and do you feel you must go away from home or is a staycation ok?

We just did a staycation. It wasn't quite the same. We're going away for a few days to see the full Great American Eclipse, next month though. It will only be partial where we are. Our excitement about that is much higher than it was to just hang out here.

Will reap with a joyful shout." - Psalm 126

Excellent. For me it would be much more of a drive - about 900 miles from Los Angeles to Idaho Falls. Still, it will be a 650 mile drive if you are driving, to get near Greenville, South Carolina.

It's a pretty good trek for us too, but we're making a mini-vacation out of it.

been doing the staycation the last few years
definitely feels like more of a mental break (for me) if we leave our state, however

I find just going out for the day is the best therapy. I actually get more stressed when I'm on a holiday. Traveling doesn't feel like a holiday and is not relaxing at all. I see it more as a duty. Chilling out at home is where I feel most happy. However, I have done a lot of traveling throughout my life. I've gone to Sweden mostly every year since I was 6 years old. I've been to Ireland many times. I've gone around Britain throughout my life, as well. I have also been to Spain, Greece and Lanzarote. I never sit still, so when I do get the chance to chill, staying at home is my idea of heaven.

I just received some cheapo eclipse glasses. I may not be in total darkness, but I will be able to see the moon blocking out part of the sun. I looked at the sun and they seemed to work well. I should work on projecting the sun with a mirror on a wall in a shadow. If the mirror is small enough, it will act like a lens if the distance is far enough so it will be focused.

I am never more relaxed than at the ocean. Mountains are a close second but I do feel very peaceful at the waters edge. Ocean is best, tho a lake or river does the trick in a pinch.

I hope to get to the beach for a week early in fall.

Absolutely. And sometimes I just need a vacation "mental health" day. We have to have things to look forward to and unless you're in your dream job and love every minute of it, everyone needs a break sometimes. I need them often. I try to plan short weekend trips and maybe take a Friday off to have an extra day. Right now I'm considering planning a beach trip for early October.

I would like to go to the Cotwolds for a weekend. The scenery there is beautiful and it is my dream destination. I do enjoy the countryside, as well. I love taking loads of photos and breathing in the fresh air. Having a car helps, though. This is the perfect time of year to take a carefree holiday.
