The role of CBT in ADHD treatment for adults

ADD/ADHD medical treatments for adults work for improving the brain functioning and managing distractions. This helps patients keep track of things, reduce physical restlessness, and increase focus on work.

However, the medication treatment may not work for everyone. And, individuals may continue to experience ADHD symptoms like depressed mood, anxiety, low self-confidence, negative thoughts, difficulty managing emotions, etc.

CBT is a goal-oriented form of psychotherapy, which focuses on changing the way people think about themselves, their future, and their abilities to do something.
However, some adults with ADHD decline the medical treatment because of intolerable side-effects, self-doubts, etc. In such cases, doctors recommend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Since many individuals with ADHD are unhappy and feel demoralized when not able to meet their expectations, CBT works with an objective of replacing the negative thoughts with positive ones and making the patients hopeful and realistic.

    Thank you.
