  • Starting to take the pill

    Hello,
I got a prescription from my doctor today for a combined pill that I used to take years ago. She said that I can either wait until the first day of my period to start taking them (which is what I expected) or that I could take them straight away but it would take a week to provide protection. I had a look online and in the packet instructions and it all says the first day of period (provides immediate protection) or 2-5 days after period starts (protected after a week), so not sure about starting them now like she said. Has anyone else heard about this? I don't particularly mind waiting and continuing to just use condoms in the meantime but my periods are always quite irregular and it could be another 3 weeks or so before starting.

    Thanks

  • I always started a new pill on the first day of my period. I felt more comfortable with the protection that way and then also felt I would have fewer side effects than to interrupt my hormones mid-cycle.
