  • Had my period for months. No help from doctors. Desperate for advice!

Anybody able to offer advice? I'm really desperate.

I have the copper IUD as birth control but have had it for longer than 6 months and if anything my periods have been usually shorter. I have good knowledge of women's health myself due to working in this area but i am stumped by what is going on with my body.

My last period last 24 days before I went to see my GP. She prescribed tranexamic acid. This didnt work and when I returned a few days later she upped the tranexamic acid and put me back on the contraceptive pill.

My period initially went away for 3-5 days but immediately after intercourse it started again. I've now had it consistently for another couple of weeks.

I've had all the STI swabs, pap smear hormone tests, blood tests etc and digital exams. My IUD is still in correct place.

I also suffer from recurrent yeast infections which was my initial reason for coming off of hormonal contraception.

The bleeding seems to be worse after intercourse and especially after orgasm.

The GP had no other offers except for maybe getting my IuD removed but I can't go through that right now. She referred me to the gynaecologist specialist however the wait list to be seen is 4-6months long. This is impacting my life far too much to be able to cope for this long.

Absolutely desperate for any advice or even to hear of anybody has been through anything similar?

  • Hey Sadie,

Sorry you’re going through this. It sounds absolutely awful and so frustrating!!

Do you know what specifically was tested on your hormone tests? And what levels you came back with? I know they were “normal” but could there have been some low normal or high normal?

    How old are you?
