  • Spontaneous Orgasm

Does anyone know if "spontaneous orgasm" for women is a thing? You know, like you are just going along minding your own business one moment and the next you are getting off? I was used to this happening in my sleep since my early teens, sometimes in conjunction with a dream and sometimes for no apparent reason; it still happens to me to this day on roughly a weekly basis. But then one time about two years ago, it happened to me while I was wide awake and at work. I was sitting in my office, which at that time was just a cubicle, and was on office hours (basically hanging out waiting for students to come in if they needed help; I teach at a college). I had finished my work (oh how I miss the days when I actually had free time LOL), but I needed to stay there until my office hours were over, and I got bored and started texting with one of my best friends. Now I was definitely not sexting at work LOL, but my friend has a crazy sense of humor, and I don't even remember what he was saying but it wasn't sexual, but whatever it was, it started making me feel really aroused. And then I realized I was about to have an orgasm. So I ran out of the office suite and into the single-occupancy bathroom across the hallway. I just barely got the door closed and locked before I collapsed in the corner and had one of the most intense orgasms of my life. And when it was over, I had to simply walk back to my desk like nothing had happened. Someone who had seen me run out of the room asked if I was OK so I said I had gotten a phone call that I had to take. I told my friend what happened since he was wondering where I went--he was great about it but had never heard of anything like that happening (ironically that guy is now my lover LOL)--but I never told anyone else until this moment. And I sometimes wonder what would have happened had that bathroom been occupied. I know I would not have made it to another one and would have ended up writhing on the floor in the hallway. And that's most likely the moment my career would have ended LOL.

I figured this would never happen again, but then a few nights ago, I was lying in bed and hadn't quite fallen asleep yet when I randomly started having the most intense orgasm of my life. It woke me up, and then it kept going while I was fully awake for like a minute. My mind actually went from "This is awesome" to "Wow, when this is going to stop; I hope this isn't some kind of seizure." Does this sound normal? Have other people experienced this? I am just really scared that this will eventually happen at a really inappropriate place and time.

I wonder if him being your lover now is connected. It's possible that your willingness to tell him about an intimate moment as well as your ability to have an orgasm like that one changed both of your perceptions on the relationship and opened both of you up to an intimate relationship.

As far as the triggers of your orgasms, they may have been environmental factors. Something such as a perfume you react to or a pollen. Then a slight bit of shifting in your seat or in the bed and your body reacts. This happens to guys, too. Their body reacts and a bit of shifting causes them to be ready for sex in often embarrassing circumstances. No sexy thoughts needed. With some, orgasm spontaneously occurs.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
    ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia

    • Seems to me what you experienced the other night was more like a wet dream on steroids. What was going on in your life that day/night? Were you with your lover, but no sex? Something caused that buildup....

      Edit: what about medications? Any?

Really nothing out of the ordinary going on. Just a brutal day of work (past few weeks were brutal with a project but things have finally eased). No time spent with the lover. I am generally low-grade horny all the time LOL, but not any more than usual this time. Mostly I was just tired. As I said before, I have wet dreams a lot, but this was different. I am in good health and take only a very low-dose asthma medication that I have taken for over ten years. The only difference would be normally I eat very healthy, but the past couple of weeks saw me living on McDonald's cheeseburgers due to being so busy LOL.

You are probably right about the lover. He and I have been best friends for almost 12 years; we met as college freshman. We have always had the kind of friendship where we could talk about anything. I have always felt very safe with him, and he has been there for me at some of the hardest moments of my life. I wouldn't call what we have now an actual relationship, but it is "complicated." Also he lives in a different state, and all intimacy is virtual thanks to covid. We started getting intimate about a year ago.

Well, I would chalk it up as stress related or even McD's cheeseburger related LOL...

You might be right, though I am still eating the cheeseburger's and not feeling horny LOL. And that doesn't explain the first time....

              • I'd think it'd be just the opposite - McD's cheeseburgers would turn me right off! lol

Agreed. Not the best in food by far but they provide the sustenance needs when life is crazy. Things have calmed down a little though so I working my way back to healthier eating.

                  • FeelingWeird Hmmm...I don't think I've ever had a spontaneous orgasm before. I know that out of the blue I've definitely gotten aroused but I ended up either ignoring it or ducked away and handled business the good ole fashioned way to get it out of my system. I think it's fascinating that you're starting to experience those out of nowhere and without touching yourself (I'm assuming you're not masturbating to aid the orgasm?).

I think moving forward it could benefit you to start journaling/chronicling when it happens and the surrounding circumstances that you can recall to the best of your ability (like the changes in eating habit you mentioned but also other things like who was around you, what you were doing, what you might have been thinking, etc.). By doing this, maybe it could help you find some common elements/triggers.

Maybe if you find whatever it is that's increasing the odds of the spontaneous orgasms happening, it could help you have some kind of fair warning in advance OR help you curb the occurrence if you happen to be in a less than ideal environment.
