  • Can anal fingering cause damage to the anal tract?

I've been getting UTIs for the last 3 yrs and have been on constant antibiotics ever since. Most of the times the bacteria is E Coli. A nurse told me that it could be passing from my stool to the urinary tract and it's something I've always feared was because my ex husband and I did engage in some anal. He used a finger only. Never anything big or very intrusive. Could it be that my inside is harmed and the bacteria keeps leaking through that? Also, I have done a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis and it came out perfect. No abnormalities were seen

  • Sometimes, we have been anatomically put together so that our anal opening and our urethral opening is very close together, and the bacteria can travel from your butt to the opening that urine exits and travel up that tube and cause us some troubles. That's a more likely scenario than that the bacterial contamination is happening from some harm done internally in the past.

I would consider other things as a cause of the recurrent UTIs and really try to find the root of the problem. Being on antibiotics constantly isn't a great thing for you either. Have they tried different antibiotics, in case you're just not fully clearing the infection?
Are you fully emptying your bladder each time you eliminate? Are you drinking plenty of water? What is your overall, general health picture like?

I had a time in my 20's when I had a UTI every couple of months and they wanted to do surgery. It was a terrible time, but I ultimately got my overall health improved and they stopped.

    • Welcome to WH Interactive Forums. One thing that needs repeating even though I would bet you are doing it right. When you wipe, go from front to back and take a second tissue if you want to wipe again. Minimize the chance of bringing bacteria from the anal region to the vaginal region. I wonder if a bidet could be used to make an even better situation. A second situation that is rare but could be considered in some circumstances is a rectovaginal fistula. These sometimes occur, but rarely, during childbirth. They occur even more rarely from other circumstances. The fistula may be so small that only gas occasionally leaks but that is enough to carry bacteria. Best wishes.

      • I don't have any children and my sexual activity had totally stopped. I don't think it could be a fistula because I haven't gone through child birth. I don't use toilet paper and only use a bidet. I have no idea what to do anymore..
perhaps I should see a infectious disease specialist I was told
