I enjoy using oil-based lubes because they have an incredibly slippery texture and last longer than water-based products, plus they’re ideal for just about every type of sexcapade you can imagine.
What? You’ve never heard of oil-based lubricants before?
Oil-based lubricants are — you guessed it — made with oils!
They are a top choice for people in relationships who don’t use condoms, but they’re also perfect for folks who want to avoid certain additives and preservatives often found in other lubricants.
Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer* is an all-natural organic multi-purpose oil-based lubricant that only contains six ingredients!
It sounds like the holy grail of lubes, but it gets better: Chiavaye is vegan, hypoallergenic, non-toxic, non-GMO, fragrance-free, and hormone-free.
If this product looks a little familiar to you but not quite, it’s probably because it used to be called Chiavare, a brand name that was later changed to Chiavaye (pronounced key-ah-vay) as it is known today.
What Makes Chiavaye A Great Personal Lubricant?
Chiavaye is a female-owned company on a mission.
Their goal is to erase the notion that sexual health — particularly feminine health and wellness — is somehow taboo. To that end, Chiavaye is all about supporting women and their bodies.
Knowing just that much about the company so far, it’s hard to not be excited about Chiavaye — but it has a truly amazing story behind it.
Chiavaye was created by Kaylyn Easton, who was motivated by her personal experience with severe endometriosis, a painful condition that occurs when endometrial-like tissue grows in pelvic areas outside of the uterus.
“The disease often leaves patients with immense pain, excruciating periods, fluctuations in flora and dryness, irritation, discomfort during intercourse, inflammation, and an inability to participate in daily life activities,” the company explained.
Kaylyn’s medical and personal history provided her with a firsthand education on female wellness and put her on a path to advocacy for not only herself but for every other woman who is dealing with similar struggles.
To me, her inspiring health journey is what makes Chiavaye so outstanding.
After engaging in conversations with women from all stages of life — including motherhood and menopause — Kaylyn sought to create a natural product that would support women’s personal care.
As a result, Chiavaye was born.
“Chiavaye is a solution for women who enjoy using lube on a regular basis, need extra moisture from time to time, or want to maintain supple, youthful parts,” the company said.

Sounds amazing, but does it walk the walk? I was determined to find out.
For me, it was love at first pump.
Look, I’ll be completely honest with you: I’m not a fan of most lubes. In my experience, they often pill or worse — they’ll barely last.
Not Chiavaye. It’s slick and smooth with absolutely no odor — and it isn’t sticky at all.
Truth be told, you don’t even need foreplay with this stuff! During sex, Chiavaye lasted for a good half hour without needing reapplication.
The lubrication from this product felt so natural that my partner barely noticed.
Looking back, I’m sure he thought we were just having a great sesh. But in the end, he was thrilled because we totally went the distance — there was no stopping. It was a great cardio workout!
Another thing I liked about Chiavaye was that I didn’t feel all gooey afterward. You know that sensation, girls…the one where you have to run to the bathroom immediately.
Chiavaye was fantastic from beginning to end.
The Pros And Cons Of Chiavaye
Chiavaye is a natural oil-based product that can be used daily as a personal moisturizer or as lube to spice things up in the boudoir.
Even though I’m singing Chiavaye’s praises, every product has benefits and drawbacks. Here are some quick pros and cons for the busy beavers out there:
The Pros Of Chiavaye
- Relieves vaginal dryness and discomfort
- Made using a vegan formula
- Hypoallergenic so it’s friendly to sensitive skin
- Good for bath or shower sex
- Very hydrating
- Made from safe ingredients
- Can be used as lube, nipple serum, and even skin oil
- Edible and safe to swallow
The Cons Of Chiavaye
- Not suitable for use with most condoms
- Can stain fabric
- Does not contain hydroxyethylcellulose, so it’s not good when trying to conceive
- Not suitable for anyone allergic to any of the nut-based ingredients
Not only is Chiavaye recommended for sex, but it provides much-needed relief from vaginal dryness, itching, chafing, and burning.
It also diminishes discomfort from thinning vaginal walls due to menopause or other female disorders.
Having used it myself, I can see how Chiavaye would be incredibly helpful if you were experiencing any pain or dryness. Its ingredients were specifically chosen to supplement the body’s natural lubrication.
Although it’s a top-quality product I highly recommend, there may be times when you won’t want to use Chiavaye — or any oil-based lubricant, for that matter.
When To Not Use Oil-Based Lubricant
Oil-based lubes should not be used with most condoms, including those made from latex because they can break down the material.
Likewise, you should also avoid pairing oil-based lubes with diaphragms or sex toys made from latex for the same reason.
If you’re trying to have a baby, always choose a lubricant that has a hydroxyethylcellulose base instead, which is designed to promote good sperm motility.
And don’t forget, anything that travels internally has to be used with caution.
That said, Chiavaye is pH neutral so it’s completely safe for vaginal use as long as you don’t have any allergies or sensitivities to its ingredients — which we’ll talk about next.
When it comes to anal sex, the rectum has a neutral pH between 7 and 8, so those made for vaginal use (around 4.5), may not always be an ideal choice for anal use.
Quality oil-based lubricants like Chiavaye, which has a neutral pH, are formulated so they won’t upset your vaginal or anal pH in the process.
Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer & Lubricant Ingredients: Are They Safe?
Essential oils have become all the rage these days, mainly because most of them are highly moisturizing.
What I really love about Chiavaye is that it only uses six ingredients — and I’m familiar with all of them.
The ingredients in Chiavaye are hypoallergenic and skin safe, thoroughly tested, and manufactured cruelty-free, but here are some specific details on each oil it includes:
- Sunflower Seed Oil: non-irritating, anti-inflammatory, and contains linoleic acid — but be cautious if you have a nut allergy
- Grapeseed Oil: rich in Vitamin E, contains essential fatty acids, and has anti-inflammatory properties
- Evening Primrose Oil: omega-6 fatty acid with anti-inflammatory properties
- Coconut Oil: rich in fatty acids and is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral — but use caution if you have allergies
- Almond Oil: highly emollient, antibacterial, and contains Vitamin A
- Vitamin E: supports cell function and has anti-inflammatory properties
My favorite thing about the oils in Chiavaye is that they make it so versatile — it’s not just for vaginal dryness or sexual activity.
It can be used for anything, including makeup removal, as a bath oil or cuticle oil, and even a nipple serum if you’re breastfeeding.
Not gonna lie…I used this multi-purpose moisturizer and lubricant in place of my normal eye cream, and it was amazing!
Even though Chiavaye is made from safe ingredients, it’s important to remember that anything you put on your skin — especially in delicate areas — should be patch tested first.
Don’t just slop it on your goods all willy-nilly!
You know your body better than anyone else so if you have allergies to any of Chiavaye’s ingredients, keep them in mind before using it.
How To Use Chiavaye
Using Chiavaye is a pretty simple process.
All you need to do is squirt one or two pumps onto your hand or fingers, apply where needed and you’re good to go. You don’t need a lot at once.
Since it’s so moisturizing and because you can put it anywhere on your body, if you do end up with a little extra on hand, rub it wherever you’ve got dry skin.
After all, nobody should waste good lube!
How To Clean Oil-Based Lube
One major downside to oil-based lubes is that they can be a little more difficult to clean, and many people don’t want to stain their fancy bedding!
I did not see any staining on my own sheets, but it’s not the end of the world if you do. All you need to remedy the situation is hot water and detergent.
Soak the oil-stained area in hot water, and then rub liquid laundry detergent or liquid dish soap to release the stain.
Once you’ve machine-washed the bedding, make sure to check that the stain is entirely gone before you put it in the dryer.
Where To Buy Chiavaye
If you’re ready to try Chiavaye — and this point, why wouldn’t you be — you can purchase this amazing multi-purpose moisturizer and lubricant below.
OVERALL SCORE: (4.9 out of 5)
- Pros: A Short List Of Solid Ingredients; Oil-Based And Very Hydrating; Waterproof; Includes A Pump On The Dispenser; No Flavor, Color, Or Scent; Vegan; Discreet Shipping Label
- Cons: Can’t Be Used With Latex Condoms Or Dental Dams Since It Is Oil Based; Can Stain Fabric; Sunflower Oil Or Coconut Oil Could Be Potential Allergens
Bottom Line: An ideal multi-purpose lubricant, Chiavaye (pronounced Ki-A-Vay) is ideal for anyone who loves the thicker feel of oil-based lubes. Additionally, this product doubles as a moisturizer for anyone experiencing vaginal dryness.
Personal lubricants are fun, but Chiavaye does double duty by providing smooth moisture that feels completely natural whether you’re using it for sex or daily personal care — or both.
If you’re in the market for a fantastic oil-based lube, Chiavaye is my new favorite!
I love the simplicity of its ingredients — just six essential oils — but it’s the fact that you can use it for so many different things that makes it worth every penny.
