Is it bad to want to hear that I'm awesome?

So my boyfriend and I have been together since February 5th but have been dating since September (if that made any sense). He is good looking guy and has always been the one who kind of flies through girls really quick so when it comes to that stuff he's pretty confident. On the other hand I'm pretty insecure on was always a tom boy and guys didn't really notice me as anything more then a friend till my Senior year in high school and the guys that did notice me were self absorbed, or just cheated on me. When having a deep discussion my guy admitted that I'm not his usual type, his type being skinny little things with flat tummies. He likes make joking comments about he doesn't like certain things I wear or sometimes if I ask his opinion he'll openly admit he doesn't like it, but he never ever balances these things out with compliments. Like I can only remember him saying that I have a good personality and shrugged when he said I was pretty. Today he said that he shouldn't have to tell me these things and that I'm just being emotional and insecure.

I compliment him often because I really feel that I'm lucky to have such a funny attractive guy. So by him not saying anything to me in return I feel like I'm really not what he wants. He also has admitted that he's cheated on a past girlfriend.
I mean if he cheats on a girl who is his type, why wouldn't he cheat on me?

Is it bad to want to hear why someone's with you? Am I really just being insecure?

In my opinion, if he is embarrassed to say nice things about you in private, he may not be as into you as you think. How he is around his friends and others may vary due to peer pressure.

I think it's rather normal to want to be complimented by your bf, especially in those early days of a relationship. Quite frankly, he sounds like he is insensitive at the very least, to respond by telling you you're insecure and emotional.

You may be insecure, but it sounds to me like you could do much better than him sweetie

Are you kidding? Of course you should hear you're awesome. Dude, I like going out with my GF not because I want to go out and I'm bored, but because I want to show off (which is a compliment). I show a lot of affection in public and am not ashamed to. So he shouldn't just be telling you you're awesome, but making you feel that way too. And I have to agree with JNS on this one. If he isn't saying nice things to you in private then he may not be that into you.

And don't think that if you find a guy that says nice things to you in private only that you've hit the jackpot. It shouldn't stop there. Your guy should be able to show you affection in public as well, be it verbal or physical.

I agree with the rest of the community. Your boyfriend should be complementing you at every opportunity. We all need I feel appreciated by those we love. You should also be valued by more than how you look. Women become more attractive if they are beautiful on the inside.

It would be great if you can find your own confidence. Don't just be grateful for him because he is handsome. Feel that he should be grateful for having such a wonderful woman. A confident woman is a sexy woman.
