In fact, we feel that the LAST thing you should ever do is wonder if what you are reading is accurate or medically relevant.
Whether you’re riveted by a review of a sexual wellness product or just need assurance that an article on birth control is medically sound, our first priority — even before writing our first sentence — is ensuring medical correctness and integrity.
Upholding this mission means that:
- All content is researched, fact-checked, vetted, and reviewed for medical accuracy by one or more members of our medical review board.
- Information is sourced from trustworthy publishers and medical publications.
- Medically peer-reviewed studies and research are utilized whenever possible.
- Articles are updated on a frequent and regular basis as new, credible information becomes available.

Meet Our Medical Review Board
Hello, my name is Sarah Melancon.
I hold a Ph.D in Sociology with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of Arizona and am also a Certified Sexologist. As a child I was diagnosed with severe social phobia and a rare communication disorder called Selective Mutism, which profoundly affected my ability to connect with both myself and others.
Struggling with sexual issues that weren’t helped by existing approaches, when I discovered Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory about the autonomic nervous system in 2015, all of the pieces of my life finally started falling into place. I discovered that sexuality best functions in a space of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual safety. With great compassion, patience, and support, healing the wounds that create a sense of disconnection and leave us stuck in defensive states of flight, fight, freeze, or shutdown can bring us back to wholeness, oxytocin, and ultimately — intimacy and connection.
My personal research interests include the origins and meaning of fantasies, fetishes, and kinks; the influence of early trauma and attachment experiences on adult sexual function, behavior, and relationships; the link between sexuality and spirituality; women’s sexuality; and psychedelic and somatic therapies for sexual and relationship issues. I am also interested in similar theoretical and therapeutic approaches for the treatment of selective mutism, a deeply painful yet poorly-understood condition with few successful treatments.
I am the lead researcher at Women's Health Interactive and have a variety of work experience in the field of sexuality, including research, education, counseling, and media/PR.
Hello, my name is Sue Milstein.
I am a health educator by training, with an undergraduate degree in health education from SUNY Cortland and a master’s degree in health education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
When I realized that sex was the one thing everyone wanted to talk about, but everyone seemed afraid to do so, I decided it was time to specialize in sexuality. I got a Ph.D. from Widener University in Human Sexuality Education. I’m a Master Certified Health Education Specialist, and right now I’m an Assistant Professor at Springfield College where I teach human sexuality and other health education classes.
In addition to teaching, I co-wrote the 6th edition of “Human Sexuality: Making Informed Decisions” and am the co-editor of the textbook “Men’s Health: An Introduction.” I also use social media to help get good sex information out to everyone (@heydrsue).
When I’m not writing or teaching, I’m dancing. I’ve been a competitive Irish dancer for about nine years.
Hello, my name is Christie Hartman.
I'm a psychologist, author, and coach who specializes in helping people have awesome relationships. I have an M.A. in clinical psychology and my Ph.D. – both from the University of Colorado – is in behavioral genetics, which is the study of the genetic underpinnings of behavior.
I've worked on research projects that examine developmental disability, ADHD, criminal behavior, and addiction.
In my post-science career, I've focused on relationships: how to find the right person, what makes a relationship work, and why they fail. I’ve also written 5 dating advice books on the subject.
Believe it or not, science can explain a certain amount of behavior regarding love, sex, and relationships, and I enjoy exploring those topics.
Hello, my name is Elyse Rella Rubio.
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a certified perinatal mental health professional (PMH-C) practicing in New York. I have a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Sociology from Fordham University.
I also have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as perinatal mood and anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International.
My passions are supporting and empowering my clients as they cope with and adapt to transitions in their lives, especially those related to pregnancy and motherhood.
When I am not providing therapy or helping Women's Health Interactive, I am busy chasing after my three sons, connecting with my husband, enjoying time with my family and friends, and squeezing in time to practice restorative self-care.
Hello, my name is Marija Marinkovic.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in New York City for 7+ years. I obtained a Master's Degree in clinical social work from Fordham University and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Montclair State University. I also have a background in music and obtained a bachelor's degree in music performance with a concentration in flute.
I have always been fascinated with the brain. My career as a social worker initially took off in the medical field, working for the Mount Sinai Health System in the Brain Injury Department and multiple sclerosis practice for the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for Multiple Sclerosis at Icahn School of Medicine.
I later moved on to private practice as a psychotherapist and currently treat clients with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and chronic illness.
In my free time, I enjoy playing music and baking layered cakes.
Hello, my name is Justin Lehmiller.
I am a social psychologist and Research Fellow at The Kinsey Institute. I also run the 'Sex and Psychology' blog and podcast, where I share the science of sex and relationships in a way that is both entertaining and educational. Think of it as the sex ed that you didn’t receive in school! My goal is to help correct harmful myths and misconceptions and give people the tools they need to enhance their intimate lives.
I conduct research on a wide range of topics, including sexual fantasy, casual sex, safer-sex practices, and polyamory. My most recent book, 'Tell Me What You Want: The Science of Sexual Desire and How It Can Help You Improve Your Sex Life,’ is based on the largest scientific survey of sexual fantasies ever conducted in the United States. It explores what we fantasize about, where our fantasies come from and what they say about us, as well as how to communicate effectively about fantasies in a relationship.
I have also written a textbook titled 'The Psychology of Human Sexuality' that is used in college classrooms around the world. Beyond my work as a researcher and author, I am also a consultant for various sexual health and wellness companies and put on educational public lectures and workshops.
The job of a sex educator is never done, but in my spare time, I’m a cat dad, world traveler, and pretty decent amateur chef.
